October to have cheaper flights due to decrease in fuel surcharge rates

Here's some good news for travelers!

Got some trips planned this October? Flights are set to become cheaper next month due to a decrease in fuel surcharge rates.

In a Sept. 16 Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) advisory, it's stated that under CAB Resolution No. 25, passenger and cargo fuel surcharge for domestic and international flights will be designated to Level 4 (from Level 5) from Oct. 1 to 31.

It's the first time the passenger fuel surcharge was set at Level 4 this year.

Level 4 translates to a fare between P117 and P342 for domestic flights and P385.70 and P2,867.82 for international flights.

Level 5, meanwhile, means a fuel surcharge of P151 to P542 for domestic flights and P498.03 to P3,703.11 for international flights.

"Airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharge for the same period must file its application with this office on or before the effectivity period, with fuel surcharge rates not exceeding the above-stated level," CAB said.

The agency also reminded carriers that the applicable conversion rate in collecting fuel surcharge for October is 1 USD = P56.67.

Fuel surcharge is a fee that airlines may include in the base fare to help offset the ever-fluctuating costs of jet fuel.
