Carmina Villarroel has addressed allegations that she's "matapobre" and that she tends to meddle in her children's love lives.

In an interview with the press after the Aboy Kamay na Pangarap press conference, the actress expressed his appreciation for his son, Mavy, for his sweet birthday greeting, where he took pride in how her mom is known as “one of the nicest people” in showbiz.

“I appreciate my son, I appreciate my daughter, I appreciate my family. Through thick and thin, makikita mo naman talaga ‘yung pagmamahal namin, overflowing. It’s just so sad na parang may misconception sa amin,” she said, as seen in a video shared by entertainment portal PEP.ph.

Carmina then opened up about being called “matapobre” and “pakialamera” online and stressed that if there's truth to it, it would have smeared her image as an actress in the past.

“Ang point ko lang, ganito lang po ‘yun: Kung masama akong tao, kung sinasabi nilang, matapobre ako, or pakialamera ako, o ganito-ganito, dapat noon pa, ‘di ba?” she told the media. “Dapat noon pa, na-tsismis na 'yan—na masama akong tao, na ganito-ganito. But if you look back, ‘yung mga tsismis, wala kang makikitang ganu’n,” she continued.

“I’m not saying I’m perfect. Nobody’s perfect. Pero wala kang maririnig sa akin na diva ako, na matapobre ako. Ngayon na lang, or nitong last year na lang,” she said.

Without dropping names and going into details, Carmina said that there might be someone who wants to ruin her and her family.

“I don’t wanna say it, I don’t wanna think about it, but parang lumalabas lang na mayroon lang gusto talagang manira sa akin at sa pamilya ko. Let’s all face that. Kasi sino naman ang gagawa, all of a sudden?” she explained.

'I'm just being a mother'

Carmina also denied accusations that she interferes in the love lives of her twins, Mavy and Cassy.

“Kung talagang pakialamera ako, wala sila sa showbiz ngayon. I’ve been saying that, hindi ako pakialamera. I’m very supportive [of] my kids. But I’m just being a mother. What does it mean? Mapagmahal akong ina, I care for them, I worry about them. Mahal ko sila, gagawin ko ang lahat para sa kanila," she said.

What matters for Carmina, after all, is that they know the truth.

"Well, this is showbiz life, you know, we know the truth, and 'yun lang naman ang importante, 'yun ang lagi ko sinasabi sa kanila. Basta tayo as a family, we're intact, nagkakaintindihan tayo, alam natin kung ano yung totoo," she added.

In 2023, Carmina and her family made cryptic posts amid rumors that her son, Mavy, has called it quits with his then-rumored girlfriend, Kyline Alcantara. The two parties shared posts on social media that users speculated were directed towards each other.

On Mavy’s birthday in January, Carmina turned emotional as she greeted him a happy birthday and said that she and her husband, Zoren Legaspi, are happy that “[Mavy] is back.”

“Tatay and I are just happy that you’re back. You know that I’ve been quiet for the past how many years. Hindi ko alam kung bakit nila sinasabing nangingialam ako. But I don’t care, because I am your mother,” she said during an episode of their cooking show, Sarap, ‘Di Ba?.

“Kung nakialam ako, hindi mangyayari ito. So it only means, hindi ako nakialam," Carmina said. "That's why I'm just thankful because... that you're back.”
