HYBE and Source Music’s new girl group LE SSERAFIM makes fierce debut with ‘Fearless’
LE SSERAFIM is “fearlessly” ready to take over the K-pop industry.
A name that originally comes from the celestial being “seraphim,” LE SSERAFIM is HYBE and Source Music’s first girl group. The group is composed of six members, namely former IZ*ONE members Miyawaki Sakura and Kim Chaewon and Produce 48 alum Huh Yunjin, along with Kazuha, Garam, and Eunchae.
LE SSERAFIM made their long-anticipated debut with their first solo EP Fearless, an anagram of the group’s name. The mini-album and music video of the title track of the same name was released on Monday, May 2.
The high fashion-inspired music video features the girl group showing off their sultry and classy sides in multiple sets. One of the most eye-catching parts, on the other hand, is the members dancing in a practice room.
“Telling me to hide my desire, that’s weird / Acting like I’m humble, that’s done / Bring me forever win / Number one on my chest / World groveling under my feet / Take the world / Break it down / Break you down,” Yunjin and Kazuha sang in the verses.
On the other hand, the mini-album contains five tracks, namely, The World is My Oyster, Fearless, Blue Flame, The Great Mermaid, and Sour Grapes.
Familiar faces taking on a new beginning
Sakura, Chaewon, and Yunjin are familiar faces to K-pop fans prior to debuting in LE SSERAFIM. Despite this, they promised they’ll show new sides of themselves in the girl group.
Sakura revealed during the debut press conference that she wants to “do better” as an artist. “This is my third debut. It’s a little burdensome and I feel like I have to do better… To be honest, it would be a lie to say there was no pressure.”
“It was a burden but at the same time, I was grateful for the interest… I’ve been promoting for 10 years, and there is a sense of pressure that comes from the fact that this is my third debut. I will do my best to show a good image,” she added.
Sakura is a former member of J-pop groups HKT48 and AKB48 and is known as one of the most popular members. In 2018, she participated in the Korean reality TV show Produce 48 with bandmates Chaewon and Yunjin.
The Japanese idol also debuted as the visual, sub-vocalist, and sub-rapper in the K-pop girl group IZ*ONE after ranking second.
Meanwhile, Chaewon admitted that while being appointed as LE SSERAFIM’s leader made her nervous, she learned new sides of herself. “It’s been almost a year since I’ve held an official position so I’m very nervous. I think I was able to discover a new side of me through hard training.”
Chaewon debuted as the lead vocalist and lead dancer of IZ*ONE after ranking 10th in Produce 48. She’s a former trainee of the music label Woollim Entertainment.
Yunjin, on the other hand, said she didn’t expect to debut with Sakura and Chaewon since it’s been four years since Produce 48. “After Produce 48 ended, I returned to being a trainee and I didn’t know that I would see Sakura and Chaewon again.
“It was great to be able to get together as a team. I wondered how different it would be since four years have passed, and I thought that it would be awkward between us. But as soon as we met, we got along so well,” Yunjin added.
Yunjin joined Produce 48 as a trainee of Pledis Entertainment where she became known for her vocal abilities. Sadly, she got eliminated in the show’s 11th episode.
