'Lumaki din po ba sya sa farm?': Internet asks if young pilot flying across 7 continents is related to Alice Guo

Nope, he didn't grow up on a farm.

Teen pilot Ethan Guo is making rounds online as he vies to become the world’s youngest person to fly across all seven continents. His goal is to generate donations to support research into childhood cancer. However, Pinoys are wondering if he is related to a certain politician who was dismissed for grave misconduct.

In the post by ABS-CBN News about his mission, many social media users expressed doubts that the 19-year-old Asian-American pilot may be related to dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo—who is under investigation due to her alleged ties with illegal POGOs and other cases, including a graft case—due to their same surnames.

“Kaano ano ni [A]lice [G]uo ito?” a social media user wrote.

“Lumaki din po ba sya sa farm?” one Instagram user quipped.

“Hindi mo naman planong e takas si Alice ano?” one Facebook user commented.

For his part, Ethan has just a brief response to claims that he is related to the disgraced former Bamban mayor: “[I’m] not related to Alice Guo.”

Ethan is on a mission to fly to all seven continents not just to be the youngest person to do so, but to also raise $1 million (over P57 million) for cancer research.

According to his website, he first developed his passion for aviation at the age of 13 and eventually earned his private pilot license at 17. He has flown solo to 48 contiguous US states and crossed the Atlantic Ocean three times.

Taking inspiration from his cousin who was diagnosed in 2021, Ethan is bringing with him in his every flight his impetus to fight cancer by raising awareness about childhood cancer, and boosting research efforts to “find prevention and treatment methods.”

He often shares more about his journeys on his Instagram account.
