Catriona Gray wishes MUPH 2022 candidates were given 'more difficult questions,' netizens agree

After the Miss Universe Philippines 2022 coronation night, Catriona Gray commented on the questions that were asked to the candidates, saying that they could have been given tougher ones than usual.

In a tweet, the Miss Universe 2018 winner said: “I wish the girls were given more difficult questions. Feel ko kayang kaya nila.”

For context, these were the questions that were asked to the Top 5 finalists of the competition:

  • If you could stop time for a day, how would you spend it?
  • What is your biggest insecurity and how do you address it?
  • What is your greatest fear and how do you try to overcome it?
  • If you could teach Filipinos one thing, what could it be and why?
  • What is that one life-changing decision that you’ve made and what was its impact in your life?

An Internet user agreed with Catriona, adding that the MUPH questions could be easily answered by a 12-year-old. The Filipina queen, for her part, replied with “hoyyyy” and laughing emojis.

Another one tweeted that the questions that were asked “were the kinds of questions Steve Harvey asks the delegates when he first introduces them as finalists. Kind of like chit-chat questions only. I was surprised Top 5 agad after that.”

“The questions are for 6th grader with honors. Hope they give more difficult and socio-economic relevant questions. The harder the question, the best answer to elaborate, the best woman to choose to represent the country,” said a netizen.

There are a few, however, who argued that the candidates’ answers and delivery have more weight than the questions asked during the pageant. “Kahit naman ‘What makes you blush?’ lang ang tanong, kung hindi naman maayos sumagot ang candidate, same lang din.”

Another one said that the questions were simple but they weren’t easy to answer. “For sure, may in the local and international stage may fail to answer those in the best way a candidate may be judged relatable, specific, striking, appealing, and believable.”

Hosted by past Miss Universe titleholders Pia Wurtzbach, (2015), Iris Mittenaere (2016), and Demi-Leigh Tebow (2017), the Miss Universe Philippines 2022 tilt was held on Saturday, April 30 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Celeste Cortesi of Pasay City took home the highly coveted crown, followed by Michelle Dee of Makati City (Miss Universe Philippines - Tourism), Pauline Amelinckx of Bohol (Miss Universe Philippines – Charity), Annabelle Mae McDonnell of Misamis Oriental (1st runner-up), and Ma. Katrina Llegado of Taguig (2nd runner-up).
