Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner confirm divorce: 'This is a united decision'
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have broken their silence on their divorce, which they called a "united decision."
The singer posted a joint statement on their split on social media on Wednesday, Sept. 9. "After four wonderful years of marriage, we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage," the former couple began.
"There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children," they added.
Divorce rumors between Joe and the Game of Thrones star began circulating online on Sept. 3, after entertainment site TMZ reported that the two have been facing “serious problems” in their romance for half a year now, citing multiple sources.
TODAY, on Sept. 6, reported that it "exclusively obtained" a petition for dissolution of marriage filed by Joe on Sept. 5, which stated that "the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken."
According to the filing, they also have a prenuptial agreement, or a contract establishing their respective rights to property and support in the event of divorce or death.
The two got engaged in 2017 after being together for a year. They had two wedding ceremonies in 2019—one in Las Vegas in May and another one in France in June.
Sophie and Joe have two children together.
