Geneva Cruz on going back to school at 48: 'There's no such thing as being too late'

Geneva Cruz is working hard to get her diploma at 48 years old.

In an Instagram post, the singer and actress delighted her followers when she shared that she has decided to go back to college to finish her degree in business administration after she dropped out of school in the past.

"It took me a long time to finally return to school and strive to complete college," she began as she posted pictures of herself wearing her uniform at the Philippine Christian University.

"I remember my college days [at the University of Santo Tomas], where I took up AB General/Lit. But life had a different plan for me, and that’s to become a mother first. I have no regrets because I have a beautiful son," she continued, referring her eldest child, Heaven Arespacochaga.

But now that she has her 10-year-old daughter London from her former partner Lee Paulsen looking up to her, she was motivated to set a good example by finishing her degree.

"I strongly believe in setting a positive example for my children, which drives me to dedicate time to pursuing my educational goals," Geneva wrote. "My favorite quote has always been, 'If there's a will, there's a way,' and it's true. You can always find time to prioritize and pursue what is important to you if you really want to."

"I live to grow because there's no age or judgment in personal growth as long as you keep pushing forward to finish what you start. Go after your goals—there's no such thing as being too late!" she continued.

The local star went on to dedicate her post to her family, "To my papa, my two children, and sisters Aubrey, Vanessa, and Eliza, who all finished college… para sa inyo rin ito."

Geneva, however, reminded her followers that having a degree is not a "pass or a way to a great life."

"The point is not that a degree is meaningless but that it should have great value or uphold something of great importance to you. People hire or do business with you based on your skills, attitude, and work ethic rather than just your degree."

Her followers showered her with supportive messages in the comments section of her post.

"So proud of you, Gen! Such an inspiration," one user wrote.

"Good luck on your studies! Kayang kaya mo yan!" another one commented.

Geneva began her career in 1989 as one of the lead singers of the popular group Smokey Mountain. She has tried her hand in showbiz and has starred in numerous films and television shows. Her recent appearances include It's Showtime's "EXpecially For You" segment and GMA's Abot-Kamay na Pangarap.
