Nadia Montenegro’s daughter, Sophia Asistio, reconciles with estranged father Baron Geisler, but won't change surname
Nadia Montenegro's youngest daughter, Sophia Asistio, has revealed that she and her estranged father, Baron Geisler, have reconnected and are now talking.
Nadia and Sophia served as guests on the newest episode of Lutong Bahay hosted by Mikee Quintos. As they were enjoying some callos, Mikee brought up Nadia's past interview where she confirmed that Baron is indeed the father of her teenage daughter.
When asked how the veteran actress told Sophia about this, she said, "From the very beginning naman, hindi namin sinabi sa kanya. All the years, nakikita naman niya 'yung mga cousins niya doon sa side na 'yun, so we never cut ties naman."
"She knew inside, pero she confronted me when she was 16. I can't find any reason naman na idutdot pa 'yung truth kung nakikita ko naman na okay naman kami," she continued.
Nadia then shared that Sophia is now in contact with her dad, which her daughter affirmed.
"I talk to my dad, but since I grew up now with [my mom's late husband Boy Asistio], syempre iba pa rin 'yung soft place niya sa heart ko," Sophia said.
The conversation moved on to why Sophia is still choosing to adopt her stepfather's surname instead of Baron's.
"When I see comments na parang 'Bakit ganito 'yung apelido mo?,' ganto, ganyan. I'm very proud sa apelyido na mayroon ako ngayon. I take pride and kung hindi ko siya kailangang palitan, hindi ko papalitan 'yung apelyido ko," she said, causing Nadia to turn emotional and wipe tears from her eyes.
Regarding how she addresses Baron, Sophia admitted that she still "hasn't found the right term."
"When I talk to him, I just say po, ganun lang," she said. "I'm trying to respect pero there's still boundaries. I've tried na rin, parang second chance na lang din 'to."
Sophia highlighted that she still wants to form a relationship with her biological father despite the rift between them.
"Syempre hindi ko rin i-cu-cut off 'yung ganung opportunity. Baka may mahanap ako sa sarili ko na mas makabubuti pala sa akin. Baka mas mag-grow ako as a person if may nakita akong, 'Uy may similarities pala kami,'" she added.
Nadia believed that there will come a "right time" when everything will turn out fine between them.
The actress previously said during her guest appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda that she set some distance between Baron and Sophia because of the former's history of alcohol abuse.
"Tito Boy, unlimited chances for someone to change," she said when asked why the issue persisted this long. "Give me a reason na ipaharap kita sa kaniya nang sober ka. The drunk messages. The drunk text to my daughter. You think that would help her?"
Baron has since cleaned up his act and is trying his best to maintain sobriety.
