Police believe 'multiple people' should be charged in Matthew Perry's death: report
"Multiple people" should be charged in relation to the ketamine overdose death of actor Matthew Perry, police believe.
People Magazine, citing a law enforcement source, reported that the investigation into Perry's death is "nearing its conclusion."
The source added that the United States Attorney's Office will ultimately decide whether or not to press charges.
The office, meanwhile, had "no comment" on the issue.
Perry was found unresponsive in his pool in his house in Los Angeles in October 2023. He was 54.
An autopsy showed he died due to "the acute effects of ketamine," a controlled drug that Perry, a recovering addict, was understood to be taking as part of his supervised therapy.
Doctors and veterinarians often use ketamine as an anesthetic, while researchers have explored its use as a treatment for depression.
But underground users take it for its hallucinogenic effects.
While only small amounts were found in Perry's stomach, a high level was detected in his bloodstream.
There were questions about how Perry obtained the drug, as he reportedly didn't have a supervised infusion session for several days before his death.
Perry famously portrayed Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom Friends, which followed the lives of six New Yorkers navigating adulthood, dating, and careers.
The show drew a massive global following and made megastars of previously unknown actors, including Perry.
But Perry, amid his newfound fame and fortune, hid a darkness that left him struggling with addictions to painkillers and alcohol.
In 2018 he suffered a burst colon related to drug usage and underwent multiple surgeries.
Perry had reportedly been clean for 19 months before his passing.
