Charli XCX revealed she has nerve damage in her neck from going hard with her live performances, saying that she finds touring “really hard emotionally.”

The Apple singer opened up about how going on tour took a toll on both her emotional and physical health.

“I find the stage these days to be a very angry place for me,” she told Variety in an interview. “I’ve done a lot of physical damage to my body from performing and I’m often in a lot of pain when I perform.”

She added, “Genuinely, physically I have nerve damage in my neck from things that I’ve done on the stage.”

The 32-year-old pop star admitted that she felt like she needed to fully immerse herself on stage to give a good performance.

“For me to give a performance that I feel is good enough, I have to really physically throw myself around and that makes me very upset when I do it,” the 360 singer continued. “So, it’s kind of this hellhole.”

Charli recently went on a joint tour with Troye Sivan dubbed Sweat which kicked off in September. Amid her struggles when touring, she credited the Rush singer for making it “less of an emotional battle” for her.

“Being with Troye just softens that quite a lot,” she added, “and a lot of other people on the tour just made me feel a lot lighter.”

“I find touring really hard emotionally,” she admits, adding, “and being with Troye just made that a lot easier and less of an emotional battle for me.”

Charli XCX, whose real name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison, will return to her tour dubbed Brat in 2025. She is best known for her hits 360, Apple, Boom Clap, and Von Dutch, among others.

She is among the top nominees at the 2025 Grammy Awards, bagging a total of seven nominations.
