'The Glory' star Lee Do Hyun broke up with a girlfriend for a role: 'Acting came first for me then'
Lee Do Hyun takes his roles very seriously.
Now that all eyes are on the new 'it' couple, Lee Do Hyun and Lim Ji Yeon, an old interview of the actor has gone viral where he shared that he once broke up with an ex for a role.
In a 2019 interview with Esquire, Do Hyun was asked about his career and love life. He said that acting is his "number one priority," thus to get into character, he embodies the role first.
"I don’t like my acting being influenced because to me, acting is my number one priority. Once, I even broke up with my girlfriend because of acting. My role in the performance was a character who carried the pain of missing a woman he loved. So I broke up with her in order to be able to act like that. I really don’t know why I did that back then…," he said.
Do Hyun said he was in his early twenties when it happened and that he had grown since.
"I think I was about 21 or 22. Of course, my girlfriend didn’t understand and asked if I’m crazy. But acting came first for me then. The performance ended up being a failure. Anyway, I think I grew a lot through trials and errors like these," he added.
Last April 1, Dispatch reported that Do Hyun and Ji Yeon are dating, saying that they first became interested in each other after a trip with the cast of The Glory last summer.
Their agencies confirmed the news later in the day through separate statements.
“Lim Ji Yeon and Lee Do Hyun have gone from being close colleagues to the stage of cautiously getting to know one another better with positive feelings. We’d be grateful if you’d look warmly upon [their relationship],” Ji-yeon's agency Artist Company said.
