KC Concepcion on unfollowing stepdad Kiko Pangilinan, half-sister Frankie on IG: 'I just want peace of mind'
KC Concepcion revealed why she unfollowed her stepdad Kiko Panglinan and half-sister Frankie on Instagram, saying she just wants "to be happy."
In an Aug. 29 interview with talk show host Cristy Fermin, KC opened up about her current situation as the only daughter of ex-lovers Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion. The Megastar has three children—Frankie, Miel, and Miguel—with Kiko.
"Mahal na mahal ko naman po 'yung families ko, pero meron at meron pa rin pong complications kapag ganun 'yung family, pero I am very grateful pa rin po," she said.
When the actress and entrepreneur was asked about her decision to unfollow her stepdad and half-sister on social media, she pointed out: "Hindi naman po masama na may time na mayroon kayong ina-unfollow or mayroon kayong ifofollow. Mahirap lang po talaga kapag showbiz 'yung family, talagang lahat pinupuna."
KC got real about the problems that come with being in a "blended family." She mused, "I think 'yung sa akin, like I said, may mga complicated talaga pagdating sa blended family, mayroon din po talagang 'di perfect."
Refusing to get into much detail, she simply expressed her hope to have "peace of mind" and happiness not just for herself, but for her family.
"Wala naman po akong gustong ikuwento pa apart from the fact na, ako, I just want peace of mind. I want to be happy. I want my family to be happy."
"Ang gusto ko lang maging light, masaya. Ayoko ng maraming drama," she went on. "'Yung forgiveness kasi sa family, important din 'yun siguro para maging okay 'yung takbo ng relationship ng lahat, and sometimes, mas gusto kong piliin 'yung peace of mind ko."
While KC stressed she wants to be an "ate" to her younger siblings, she highlighted her need to prioritize her mental health at the moment.
"Parang ang sabi ko, 'Basta po ako, feel na feel kong maging ate,'" she said.
"'Yung vlog ko sa Father’s Day, ang sabi ko lagi is, 'Important na ang dalawang tao sa isang relasyon to work together to make it a good relationship,'" she emphasized.
For KC, there are some things that are simply beyond her control. "I just think na may mga moments na wala na akong control, mas gugustuhin ko pong i-keep ang aking peace of mind kasi po 30s na rin po ako, 'di na po ako bata," she explained. "So, may mga panahon din po na parang isipin ko muna 'yung mental health ko, kung ano yung makakabuti sa peace of mind ko kahit ano pa 'yan, mas uunahin ko po muna 'yun."
"Importante po kasi 'yun para kaya kong mahalin 'yung mga tao in the way na dapat," she continued.
KC is in the Philippines to promote her upcoming romantic comedy film Asian Persuasion, which features a diverse, primarily Asian cast. The project seeks "to elevate, inform, and inspire the Asian narrative," according to Variety.
