If there's one "crush ng bayan" that comes to mind for today's generation, it's Joshua Garcia.

With his viral TikTok videos and constant blind items, Joshua's stardom is one that can't be denied—but he has simple dreams that go along with it.

In one of his biggest roles to date, Joshua is set to star in the upcoming ABS-CBN Darna series directed by Chito S. Roño.

Joshua will portray Brian, a budding cop that may or may not be a romantic figure opposite Jane De Leon's Narda/Darna. But as Darna teasers show, Brian fueled by finding out the truth about his father's untimely death.

"Hindi ako pwede malagay sa alanganin, kasi kailangan ko pa mahanap kung sino yung pumatay kay tatay," Brian through Joshua narrates in his character teaser video.

With his character's laser-focused vision, one can't help but wonder if Joshua is looking for a redemption arc in his own life.

During the DarnaCon media conference held on Aug. 8, PhilSTAR L!fe asked Joshua if he, like Brian, was looking for some kind of enlightenment in his life.

Joshua took time to ponder on the question, before turning it around positively and focusing on what he instead hopes for in the coming years.

"Parang wala naman [enlightenment]. I think meron ako is mas yung pangarap," the actor said. "Dream ko is maging maayos yung buhay ng magiging pamilya ko in the future. I think 'yun yung meron ako."

"Wala naman ako katulad nung kay Brian na sinosolve na mystery sa buhay ko. Meron ako is [a] dream, and 'yun 'yun."

Joshua's honest answer mirrors the likes of Hollywood names Chris Evans and Selena Gomez who have been candid about eventually starting a family amid the crazy world of being a celebrity.

During the conference, Joshua also answered lighter queries such as to how he agreed to go topless. In can be remembered that his quick shirtless scene in the official Darna trailer made social media headlines when it was released.

"Na-convince ako kasi nasa tamang edad na rin naman ako and hindi naman sa sobrang laswa na ipapakita ko ’yun," he said. "Topless lang. Okay lang naman."

"Labas din siya sa comfort zone ko so why not gawin natin hanggang sa nangyari na."

Joshua has also been more open to showing his body on social media, sharing beach snaps here and there.

He added that he had to lift weights for the first time to prepare for the shirtless scene: "Medyo nagbuhat ako nang kaunti. Kaunti lang. Hindi talaga ako sanay na nagbubuhat."

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN Entertainment’s Mars Ravelo’s Darna is set to air from Monday to Friday beginning August 15 at 8 pm on Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, Jeepney TV, and TV5. The series will also stream on Kapamilya Online Live, iWantTFC, and The Filipino Channel.
