Karylle joins reality show ‘Manila Matriarchs’
Singer-actress Karylle has been named a cast member of the reality show Manila Matriarchs.
According to Deadline, the unscripted series Manila Matriarchs will include the singer-actress and It’s Showtime! host, fashion expert Myrza Sison, and entrepreneurs Joanna Preysler-Francisco and Trisha Bantigue-Tsao.
The eight-part series, which will be shot in San Francisco and Manila, will offer a peek into the lives of four extraordinary Filipina women. Ranging from television and arts to philanthropy and technology, these individuals will share their journeys of balancing successful careers with personal lives.
Producer Cece Asuncion said that this show is her "love letter to not only Filipina women but to all women."
JP Mallo of J Creative Entertainment said Manila Matriarch will be "uniquely Filipino" as the "nuances of the Filipino culture were meant to be celebrated."
“The time is now to tell authentic and global stories with specificity. It’s important to tell these relatable stories with a uniquely Filipino point of view because it simply just doesn’t happen as often as it should,” Mallo said.
Apart from Asuncion and Mallo, the series will be produced by Miguel Santos, Eddie Tran, Joyce Tarce, and Justine Reyes of J Creative Entertainment as co-producer.
The premiere date is yet to be announced.
Karylle has been part of multiple stage productions. In 2023, she starred as Baroness Elsa von Schraeder in the Manila staging of The Sound of Music. She also showcased her versatility in Isang Gabi ng Sarsuwela and the rock opera ballet Rama Hari.
Her most recent project was the Manila run of the Broadway musical comedy, Little Shop of Horrors.
