Avril Lavigne interrupted by topless woman onstage: ‘Get the f—k off’

A topless woman crashed the stage during Avril Lavigne’s speech at the 52nd Annual JUNO Awards on Tuesday, March 14 (Philippine time) at Rogers Place in Canada.

The incident happened when the singer was introducing Canadian-Punjabi talent AP Dhillon’s performance at the ceremony. The half-naked environmental activist in pink sweatpants went up the stage and showed off some messages on her arms and back, which included “Save the green belt,” “Stop logging old growth now,” and “Land back.”

Lavigne initially ignored her, but the eight-time Grammy nominee showed she had enough when the protester went closer to the singer and struck some goofy poses near her. “Get the f—k off. Get the f—k off, b*tch,” Lavigne told her as security escorted her out of the platform.

The environmental activist has been charged with mischief.

Presented by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), the Juno Awards is Canada’s version of the prestigious Grammys, which gives recognition to big names that stood out in the music scene in the past year.

When Lavigne took home the TikTok Juno Fan Choice Award, the final prize of the night she joked about what happened during her acceptance speech. “Now, nobody try anything this time. I’ll f—k a b*tch up,” she said.

In a statement provided to CBC News, CARAS pointed out that while they “take every step” to prevent interruptions to the program, “there are always risks with live events and broadcasts.” 

"We hope tonight's brief disruption doesn't take away from the accomplishments of this year's performers, winners, and nominees,” it said.

CBC News reported that the protester, identified as Casey Hatherly, has been charged with mischief.
