It's official: Chie Filomeno and Jake Cuenca are dating
Chie Filomeno has confirmed that she’s dating Jake Cuenca.
The actress validated the rumors in an interview with ABS-CBN News during the media conference of the movie A Very Good Girl on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
"We're talking. Taking our time. You can say dating, of course, yes,” she said.
"'Yung maganda kay Jake ay he knows where my heart is. Alam niya ang priority ko and hindi niya ako minamadali. 'Yun 'yon. Very gentleman siya and he respects my decisions,” she added. “He is willing to wait.”
The 27-year-old actress further shared that her parents had already met Jake, 35,, and although they had reservations at first, she said that they would give their support for Chie's budding romance.
"Sabi naman nila Mommy and Daddy, 27 na naman ako and I can make my own decisions. And, nandiyan pa rin naman sila to guide me," she said.
The Missed Connections star went on to share what she admires the most about the actor. "Grabe siya magmahal. He is really passionate [about] his craft. Love na love niya ang family niya. He is really family-oriented, 'yun ang ina-admire ko sa kanya,” she said, adding that she also loves how thoughtful Jake is.
Chie further revealed that they had dated in the past “a couple of times,” but stopped especially since she was still young and in different phases in their lives.
"Well. kasi prior to us having a relationship, because sa interview, he said kasi na we did date before. We did date before a couple of times. Pero kasi understandable kasi 'yun 'yung phase niya na medyo marami pang nangyayari sa kanya. And ako, I was young back then. In-accept namin 'yung fact na nawala 'yon,” she said.
Chie added that she believes it’s “destiny” that they got to see each other again at the Star Magic Christmas Ball last year, where they had the chance to reconnect.
“'Yung nag-date kami before, nawala kasi 'yon and then cut to nagkita kami then naging persistent siya, naging patient siya. Kasi medyo ilag pa ako sa kanya noon. Hindi ko siya sinasagot, like parang snob pa ako noon,” she added, sharing how she noticed how the actor changed at that time.
In case you didn’t know, Jake last dated beauty queen-actress Kylie Verzosa for three years until their split in April 2022. Despite this, Chie said that she isn’t worried about being a “rebound,” saying that she knows Jake is mature enough to make decisions.
"I think he is mature enough na hindi papasok sa isang bagay na hindi pa siya ready, fully committed. So, I think 'yun nga, kaya nga we are all taking our time,” she said.
“I am taking my time also. Kasi I am really private with my relationships before, and right now kasi first time ko ever like may naka-date in this industry na naging public. Yeah, we are taking our time," she added.
Dating rumors between the two first sparked earlier this year. Jake previously expressed his admiration for Chie saying that they both enjoy each other’s company.
“I’m admiring her. I guess I can say that. She knew that I’m admiring her,” he said in an interview during Star Magic’s summer bash in May.
