Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen claps back at netizens calling her 'gold digger'
If somebody on the internet called you a gold digger, what would you do? Would you type a defensive reply or would you simply ignore and forget the rude comment?
Well, Indian actress and former Miss Universe queen Sushmita Sen showed exactly how to silence trolls who were calling her a gold digger after her relationship with businessman Lalit Modi had been revealed.
Modi, who is also the former chairman of the cricket professional team Indian Premier League, revealed on his Instagram bio that he is in a relationship with Sen.
"Finally starting a new life with my partner in crime. My love Sushmita Sen," he wrote on his bio.
On July 15, he also posted on Twitter pictures of him and the beauty queen having sweet moments together, with the caption, "Just back in London after a whirling global tour with the families, not to mention my better looking partner Sushmita Sen, a new beginning a new life finally. Over the moon. In love does not mean marriage YET. BUT ONE [DAY]. For sure."

Apparently, some people on the internet weren't so happy for the new couple and called Sen prejudicial names including the term "gold digger".
On July 17, Sen took to her Instagram account to post a message addressing the people who were trolling her on social media.
"It’s heartbreaking to see just how miserable and unhappy the world around us is becoming," she wrote, accompanied by a picture of herself relaxing in an infinity pool.
"The so-called intellectuals with their idiosyncrasies, the ignorant with their cheap and at times funny gossip. The friends I never had and the acquaintances I’ve never met, all sharing their grand opinions and deep knowledge of my life and character, monetising the ‘Gold Digger’ all the way!!! Ah these geniuses!!!" she wrote.
Sen didn't seem to mind the term and even joked about it, "I dig deeper than gold and I’ve always (famously) preferred Diamonds!! And yes I still buy them myself!!!"
She ended her post by thanking everyone who supported her and saying how she doesn't care for the rude comments hurled against her.
"I love all the heart support my well wishers and loved ones continue to extend. Please know, your Sush is ABSOLUTELY fine cause I’ve never lived on the transient borrowed light of approval and applause. I am the sun, perfectly centered in my being and my conscience!!" she wrote.
Sen was crowned as Miss Universe back in 1994. When her reign ended, she made her debut as an actress in the 1996 film Dastak, where she starred as herself.
