Janella Salvador on being a single mom: ‘Talagang nilalaban ko ‘yun’
Janella Salvador has opened up about being a single mom for the very first time.
In an interview with broadcaster Bernadette Sembrano, the Darna star talked about the similarities she has with her character Regina in the TV series, pointing out her determination to fight for what she thinks is right.
“Si Regina, kapag meron siyang pinaglalaban, as long as alam niyang nasa tama siya, ilalaban niya talaga. Eh ganun ako as a person as long as wala akong natatapakan kasi I like learning eh. I like challenging myself,” she explained.
When asked about the last thing she fought for, the actress quickly answered: “Being a single mom.”
“Talagang nilalaban ko ‘yun. At the end of the day, alam kong kaya ko naman siya. As much as I love the people around me who are always there to help me, I always want to know na kaya kong gawin. I don’t want it to sound bad kasi, pero I can rely on myself na hindi ko kailangang humingi ng tulong sa iba,” she said, relating it to how her mom, singer and actress Jenine Desiderio was also able to raise her and her brother Russell on her own and give them a comfortable life.
“Siguro, na-embody ko din kung paano siya. I wanted to be independent as well,” she continued.
For Janella, motherhood has undeniably doubled her strength and power. “Now that I’m a mom, I now have more confidence. Before kasi, I would overthink, I would get anxious over what people are thinking of me or whatever. But now, after giving birth, I don’t care as long as I’m doing this for Jude, I’m doing this for me, I’m doing what I love to do.”
The local star thinks as a parent, it’s important to be firm especially when things get tough. “We have no choice as women but to be strong because there’s a little human being that relies on us. That’s what gives me power and confidence na parang no matter what I do, kakayanin ko for this little human being. I became a woman after becoming a mother,” she shared.
Janella welcomed her baby boy Jude with actor Markus Paterson on Oct. 20, 2020.
There have been speculations surrounding Janella and Markus' breakup lately, which the actress is well aware of. "Markus and I are okay and I'm aware of the speculations that are going around. I'm asking people to give us more time, i-respect kung anuman 'yung nangyayari. I hope that people will respect our privacy as of now," she said in a previous interview.
