Rachelle Ann Go back in 'Hamilton' after battling pneumonia: 'It was tough'

Rachelle Ann Go is back as Eliza in the ongoing Hamilton international tour after being off for nearly five weeks due to pneumonia.

In an Instagram story early Saturday, June 1, the singer opened up about being back on the show following her health concern, sharing that she also lost 11 pounds because of it.

“It was tough! Hirap huminga,” the theater star wrote, sharing a mirror selfie taken backstage. “But they gave me so much love so I survived.”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, pneumonia is "an infection in your lungs caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi." It can cause one's lung tissue to swell.

The award-winning musical is showing at the Sands Threatre in in Singapore until June 9. 

Go portrays the role of Elizabeth Schulyer Hamilton, the wife of the titular character Alexander Hamilton.

She starred as Elizabeth or Eliza in the West End production in London from 2017 to 2019. Her performance was met with much praise from critics, getting a nod as Best Actress in the 2018 BroadwayWorld UK Awards.

She first played the role for the London company of Hamilton: An American Musical in 2017.

Premiering in 2015, Hamilton tells the story of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton through song and rap.

It won 16 nominations and 11 awards, including best musical at the Tony Awards, considered the highest accolade in the musical industry. It also won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for drama.
