Maggie Wilson: True masculinity is ‘not about how big, strong, rich, and powerful you think you are’

Maggie Wilson shared her thoughts on true masculinity as she talked about losing people she used to think were her friends over the past year and a half.

In a recent Instagram post, the former beauty queen said she lost some “friends” as well as opportunities, work, and time “all because I made a decision I believed was best for me.”

“It’s unbelievable how many people advised, even tried to convince me to stay because my life was ‘comfortable,’” she wrote.

“An ex-friend, who once called me ‘family,’ said, ‘Oh, but it’s normal for men to behave that way; it’s just how it is. What’s important is that he still comes home to you. Just pray na lang.’ I almost choked on my water, hearing her say that,” Maggie recalled, stressing that such “should never be normalized.”

The TV host pointed out that we live in a “toxic patriarchal society where women must endure because a particular image needs to be portrayed.”

“What is seen as acceptable in our culture and society is NOT in most parts of the world.”

Maggie went on to define true masculinity as something that “involves emotional intelligence, respect, authenticity, responsibility, accountability, and most importantly, non-violence and rejection of toxic behaviors.”

“It’s not about how big, strong, rich, and powerful you think you are,” she noted.

The local personality then recalled watching people “disappear” when she “left and started to fight back.”

“It used to hurt when I ‘lost’ people,” she said. “Now, it’s good riddance.”

This comes amid her legal disputes with her ex-husband, businessman Victor Consunji. They announced their separation after 11 years of marriage in September 2021. While they both called it a "difficult decision" at the time, they went public with their feud later on.

The former couple shares a son named Connor.

Maggie is now speculated to be in a relationship with businessman Tim Connor. Victor, meanwhile, has started a romance with entrepreneur Rachel Carrasco.
