'Young Sheldon' star Iain Armitage pens sweet message to Annie Potts: 'She’s one of my very favorite people'
Young Sheldon Cooper, played by Iain Armitage, always has a soft spot for her Meemaw, played by Annie Potts being her so-called "Moonpie." But their bond happens to go beyond the small screen.
On Facebook, the 15-year-old actor penned a sweet message to Annie following news that their long-running series Young Sheldon is airing its final season in February 2024.
In his post, Iain shared how much he loves the actress and was delighted to play his grandson in the hit CBS series.
"I love her love her love her love her love her. It has been a joy being Moonpie to Ms Annie’s MeeMaw," Iain began his post.
"Season One, I was delighted to discover that we were neighbors who both lived near the studio. It felt like having a relative who lived right down the street," he continued, noting how Annie is fond of adventures and capers.
"When I was little, we would go on walks and she’d let me put the bugs I collected in her pockets. That’s just the kind of MeeMaw she is. On set I used to snuggle up next to her—she said it recharged my batteries, and she was right," the child actor recalled.
"She makes the very best quesadillas, throws an awesome Halloween party and knows such interesting people," he added.
Iain also expressed how he is delighted to be Annie's grandson in the series, which he said is both an honor and a dream.
"Now she has real grandchildren, but I’m very honored to have been one of her first practice grandchildren. She’s one of my very favorite people! It’s all been a dream, MeeMaw!," he ended.
Prior to that, Iain also promised the viewers the "best" season finale of the hit Big Bang Theory spinoff.
“In case you wondered, I love my family,” he said, alongside an on-set photo with TV siblings Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan.
Raegan, who plays Sheldon’s twin sister Missy, commented on Iain’s post: “Can’t stop crying, My family forever!" she wrote.
In a separate post, the young actress also expressed how sad she is that the show is reaching its end.
"I will say more later, but right now, I am feeling so so heartbroken, but also so grateful. Playing Missy Cooper for the past 7 years and getting so be a part of this beloved franchise has been life changing," she wrote in the caption alongside a photo of her series' family.
Annie, on the other hand, called the news a bittersweet moment while being grateful to all series' viewers and fans for a "seven wonderful years of laughter and love."
"After seven fabulous, hilarious, fulfilling years, 'Young Sheldon' will say goodbye. It's a bittersweet moment."
"I have loved every moment of this work and loved every person who has made this wonderful show possible. I have been awed by the talent of my fellow cast members who feel more like family than colleagues. I am beyond grateful to all the "Young Sheldon" viewers and fans who made us #1. So, while I'll miss the day-to-day business of making "Young Sheldon," I celebrate seven wonderful years of laughter and love. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of it," she continued.
The upcoming seventh season is set to premiere on Feb. 15, 2024, with 14 episodes. The one-hour series finale will air on May 16.
The single-camera comedy takes viewers through Sheldon's childhood as he gradually becomes the intelligent yet childish physicist fans got to love on the multi-camera The Big Bang Theory, where Jim Parsons played the adult Sheldon.
Young Sheldon also stars Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, and Parsons being the the voice of Sheldon. The show is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
