Lewis Capaldi shares he noticed a 'marked improvement' in his health amid tour hiatus
Lewis Capaldi shared good news about his physical and mental health amid his ongoing hiatus to deal with the impact of his Tourette’s diagnosis and anxiety issues.
The musician took to his social media accounts on Dec. 31 to share a health update.
"As most of you will know, I'm currently taking some time off to focus on my health and wellbeing, and it's been going great!" the Someone You Loved singer wrote in a lengthy letter, this is his first update since going on hiatus in June.
"I've been working with some incredible professionals to help me learn about and cope better with Tourette's and anxiety issues. I'm really happy to say I've noticed a marked improvement in both since," he continued and then expressed gratitude to fans for their “overwhelming” support especially when he announced that he his taking a break.
Apart from a health update, the 27-year-old musician also surprised his fans by releasing an extended version of his second album, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, which was documented in the Netflix film How I'm Feeling Now. The movie not only gave a glimpse behind making the album but also showed the artist's struggle with Tourette syndrome.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, Tourette syndrome is a neurological disorder that affects the brain and nerves, causing uncontrollable movements and vocal sounds called tics.
The exact cause for the condition is unknown and it manifests in tics like arm jerking, bending at the waist, eye blinking, and more. Severe cases may require medication or behavioral therapy.
"This album was a scary one for me — if you saw the film I made on Netflix you probably know this already. But I was absolutely terrified of disappointing you all, afraid of not living up to expectations, and in all honestly scared that the whole thing would be a complete flop," he revealed.
According to the singer, an extended version will be released on New Year's Day having five extra songs that are “incredibly special to [him].”
The Before You Go singer went on to share that he will continue to take a tour break this 2024, and will spend time writing music and “[reflecting] on some of the most incredible years of [his] life.”
"I want to make absolutely sure I'm 100% before getting back out there properly for more shows and doing what I love more than anything!" he wrote.
Capaldi was supposed to hold his first-ever solo concert in the Philippines in July 2023 but had to cancel to focus on his health. He first shared about his Tourette diagnosis in 2022.
