Barbara Palvin ghosted Dylan Sprouse for 6 months before dating. Now they're engaged
Some people consider ghosters—people who leave a relationship without explanation—as walking red flags. For the lucky few like Dylan Sprouse, "ghoster" is synonymous with "wife."
Dylan and his fiancé, Hungarian model Barbara Palvin, have just announced that they have been engaged for almost a year now, as they graced the cover of V Magazine's fall preview issue released on June 15.
Dylan's asked for Barbara's hand in marriage five years since they started dating in 2018. But months before the two started seeing each other, the Hollywood actor experienced what many single folks couldn't get away from nowadays—being ghosted.
In their interview conducted by Dylan's twin brother, Cole, the couple revealed that they first met at a party back in 2017. After that chance encounter, Barbara followed Dylan on Instagram, and he sent him a direct message. However, he did not hear from her again in the next six months.
After all the time spent being busy with their own lives, Dylan finally had his eureka moment when the model asked him to hang out six months later while he was filming a movie.
He recounted, "'She was like, 'Hey, I'm in New York, do you want to hang out?' I was like, 'Look, you picked the worst possibile time, Barbara, because I'm going to be in China in six months.' She told me in return, 'No, actually I don't think it's the worst time because I'm going to have a campaign out there in about two months.'"
Barbara said that her project was eventually canceled, "but he still wanted me to go out there."
Dylan recalled saying to her, "Hey, why don't we jump out on a romantic limb and just do what we were planning to do anyway? I'll fly you out and we can hang out in Beijing."
Because the model didn't want to feel like she owes the actor anything, she responded, "I would love that, but I'll buy my own ticket."
It, in turn, made the Suite Life of Zack & Cody star even more enamored of her. "I thought [it] was pretty cool," he said.
Dylan and Barbara officially became a couple in August 2018. They announced their engagement on their respective Instagram accounts on the same day V Magazine introduced them as their latest cover stars.
Although Dylan popped the big question in September of last year, Barbara said that she knew she wanted to spend her forever with the actor from the get-go.
She said, "I'm really not nervous about getting married. I think the engagement stressed me more than the wedding. I mean, a man has time to prepare for the proposal—Dylan kept the ring for seven months before he asked the question."
"But for me, it was right then and there," she continued. "I knew since we started dating that I wanted to marry him, but it's a big decision."
The couple is planning to tie the knot in Barbara's home country, Hungary, while the date is still very hush-hush.
