‘Concert na may onting pageant’: Pageant fans criticize Miss World 2021 for being a ‘snoozefest’ through memes and reactions

It has been a long journey, but Jamaica’s Toni-Ann Singh—the longest-reigning Miss World titleholder in history—has finally crowned her successor. The three-hour coronation night has been one of the most awaited events for pageant fans, but their reactions on social media showed that it fell short of their expectations.

While Philippines’ bet Tracy Maureen Perez ended her Miss World journey at the Top 13, pageant fans found joy in the pageant with, what else, funny reactions and memes. Here are some of the funniest posts we’ve spotted on the internet.

‘Ang boring talaga.’

While Miss World 2021 didn’t last as long as the six-hour Miss World Philippines 2021 pageant, fans criticized the show for its “mediocre” production, and for being a “snoozefest.”

Twitter user @Tsongaofficial couldn’t hide their frustration on how the Miss World 2021 pageant turned out.

Meanwhile, @LesegoLaone said hosts Peter Andre, Fernando Allende, and Stephanie Del Valle were “putting me to sleep.”

Social media rants aside, Miss Trans Global 2020 Mela Habijan said the pageant reminded her of her “Araling Panlipunan (Asian and World History)” classes.

Was it a pageant or a ‘concert?’

Many fans also criticized the Miss World organization for turning the pageant into a “concert.” During its three-hour duration, Andre and Singh performed various songs for the audience.

Twitter user @Di_Lunit said in jest that the pageant is “saving money on the entertainment budget.”

The Philippine Pageantry pointed out that Miss World didn’t edit out the booing while Singh was performing onstage.

On the other hand, @iamreymoncm criticized the pageant for having too many commercial breaks.

‘Robbed’ queens

Of course, many pageant fans didn’t hide their frustration when certain candidates didn’t advance to the finals. Many Pinoy netizens also expressed their sadness after Perez didn't advance to the Top 6.

As Perez wrapped up her Miss World journey with a Top 13 finish, @YIZHAN02 said they’re counting on Hannah Arnold to bring home the Miss International crown. Sadly, the Japan-based pageant has been canceled due to COVID-19.
