Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy shares heartbreaking note the singer penned weeks before his death
The girlfriend of Liam Payne shared a heartbreaking note the late singer had written weeks before his death, revealing his plans to marry her.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Oct. 23, influencer Kate Cassidy shared photos of them together, as well as Payne's handwritten note that read, "Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged & together forever 444."
Cassidy also shared a text image explaining that 444 is the "favorite number sequence of the angels." The number, it says, serves as a reminder that "your angels are always there to support you."
"A few weeks ago, we sat outside on a beautiful evening manifesting our lives together," she said in her letter included in the carousel. "I keep your note close, even though you told me not to look at it."
Cassidy said her heart is "shattered in ways I can’t put into words.”
“I wish you could see the huge impact you’ve had on the world, even as it feels so dark right now," the 25-year-old said, adding that Payne "brought so much happiness and positivity to everyone—millions of fans, your family, friends, and especially me."
She told Payne, “You are—because I can’t say were—my best friend, the love of my life," adding that everyone he touched "felt just as special as I did."
"Your energy was contagious, lighting up every room you walked into," she said.
Cassidy also reflected on Payne's sudden passing. “None of this feels real, and I can’t wrap my head around this new reality of not having you here."
"I’m struggling to figure out how to live in a world without you by my side," she said. "Together, we got to be kids again, always finding joy in the smallest things.”
Cassidy said Payne had the kindest soul and the most fun-loving spirit, and that it feels like she lost the best part of herself with his death.
"I can't imagine a day without your laughter and love. You brought so much light into my life," she said.
In concluding her essay, Cassidy noted that she knows she and Payne "will be together forever, but not the way we had planned."
"You'll always be with me. I've gained a guardian angel," she said.
"I will love you for the rest of my life and beyond, carrying our dreams and memories with me everywhere I go," she added.
Cassidy signed the letter, "Forever yours, Katelyn," with 444 and white heart and wing emojis.
Payne, who rose to fame as a former member of the boy band One Direction, fell to his death from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires in Argentina. He was 31.
His room was found destroyed, with broken objects and furniture, along with alcohol and suspected drugs.
Hours before his passing, Payne posted now-deleted videos as story entries on the messaging platform Snapchat.
As spotted by multiple media outlets like Page Six, the singer shared a selfie video with a text caption that read, "Lovely day in Argentina," followed by a red heart emoji. He was seen spending time with Cassidy. It's unclear whether the stories were posted in real-time or late, though Cassidy reportedly left Argentina the weekend before his passing.
