Footballer Travis Kelce to make film industry debut as executive producer
Football star Travis Kelce, who’s in the headlines for being the boyfriend of pop icon Taylor Swift, is making his debut in the film industry as an executive producer.
Variety reported that Kelce is co-financing the upcoming dark comedy movie My Dead Friend Zoe, alongside producers Ray Maiello, a former Netflix executive, and Mike Field, a green energy entrepreneur.
My Dead Friend Zoe follows a female Afghanistan veteran, who comes head-to-head with her Vietnam veteran grandfather in their family’s ancestral lake house.
Its cast includes Natalie Morales, Ed Harris, Morgan Freeman, and Sonequa Martin-Green. Kyle Hausmann-Stokes will direct.
The movie premieres on March 9 at the South by Southwest or SXSW, an event that “celebrates the convergence of tech, film, music, education, and culture” according to its website.
Kelce, Maiello, and Field are the first to take advantage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which offers “funding, programs, and incentives to accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy and will likely drive significant deployment of new clean electricity resource,” according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
My Dead Friend Zoe, which has a budget of under $10 million, will use money generated by Field’s sale of surplus tax credits, according to Variety.
Kelce, Maiello, and Field are also looking to finance another movie, a documentary about the artist Jean-Micheal Basquiat, through the Inflation Reduction Act.
