Volleyball player Jaja Santiago has just obtained her Japanese citizenship.

The athlete shared her life update in an Instagram post, noting that changing one's nationality is "never an easy decision."

"It took a lot of sacrifices to make my dreams come true. Some people may support my decision, and some may not understand my decision. But this is for my dreams," she wrote in Japanese.

Jaja pointed out the inevitable growth that comes with progress in their careers. "I don't know how long I can continue to be a professional volleyball player. What I know now is that I will do my best for my family, for my dreams, for the people who believe in me and support me, believing in the talent God has given me," she said.

The volleyball star shared that the process was not easy as she thanked God for giving her the "opportunity and blessing" to make such a big move for herself.

She also expressed her gratitude to her Japanese husband Taka Minowa, who now serves as the head coach of Akari Chargers at the Premier Volleyball League, and her family for the support all throughout. "They made a lot of sacrifices to make my dreams come true."

Jaja likewise gave a special mention to her nearest and dearest in her chosen sport, including Chery Tiggo Crossovers Volleyball Team and the Philippine Association as well as the Japan Volleyball Association and Osaka Marvelous for their love and support.

"I would like to thank JLRC, where I studied Japanese language. I was able to learn Japanese easily here. I feel lucky to have been a part of the JLRC family. Without their help, I could not have passed the N4 exam. Thank you for your accommodation and patience towards me despite my busy schedule," she continued.

The volleyball player went on to thank her supporters. "My journey will continue to be filled with great challenges and difficulties as I have just completed my naturalization application. However, I will continue to work single-mindedly towards my dreams."

"Although I have now acquired Japanese citizenship, my heart, blood, mind, and soul will always remain a Filipino born in the Philippines. I'll never forget it," she concluded, adding that she now goes by the name Sachi Minowa. "I would be happy if you could continue to support us."

Jaja started her volleyball career in 2019 in Japan. She currently plays for JT Marvelous, a women's volleyball team in Nishinomiya, Hyogo.
