Maricar Reyes-Poon on being childless after 9 years of marriage: ‘It doesn’t make me feel less of a person’
Society has been hard on women in general and even more so for those who have reached a certain age without having kids.
No matter the validity of their reasons behind their personal family choices, nosy people tend to cross the line and put pressure on them, which gets overwhelming at some point.
Actress Maricar Reyes has been married to singer Richard Poon for nine years, but they have yet to start a family together. However, she has found her peace amid all the pressure and stigma that comes with not being a mom at 41.
In a collab vlog with Rica Peralejo-Bonifacio, the businesswoman opened up that they only started trying to have children two years after their marriage. “We even got checked, ganyan. There’s no problem with him, there’s no problem with me. Feeling ko, we did our due diligence naman on our side humanly possible. Pero wala eh, so what are you gonna do?” she said.
Maricar never got to a point of being envious about other mothers—rather, all she felt was peace. “Meron lang talaga akong peace. Kung meron, okay. Kung wala okay.”
“It doesn’t make me feel like I’m less of a person or I’m less of a female. Kung wala, wala. Ginawa mo na yung part mo eh, and I rest on that,” she continued.
The entrepreneur noted that while she has found peace, it doesn’t mean that she’s shaming those who are feeling the other way around. “Not to discredit women who don’t have the peace. Kaya lagi akong may disclaimer na hindi galing sa akin ‘to eh,” she said. “Some things, God makes easy for you, and some things, God makes a little more challenging.”
Aside from her stints in acting and modeling, Reyes is currently busy with her food business. While going back to the limelight is not part of her priorities at present, she continues to keep doors open to such opportunities.
