K-pop fans unite: Jung Hoyeon reveals she’s a fan of Girls’ Generation, 2NE1, and BIGBANG
Who knew that Hoyeon was a Sone, Blackjack, and VIP at heart?
Squid Game star Jung Hoyeon revealed in an interview with British magazine i-D that she’s been a fan of K-pop groups Girls’ Generation, 2NE1, and BIGBANG since her childhood days.
“I grew up in Seoul. When you grow up in Korea, I think you must be a huge fan of K-pop. I’m a huge fan of 2NE1, Girls’ Generation, and BIGBANG. These are the groups that I’ve been huge fans of since childhood, I think,” Hoyeon said.
For newbie fans, Girls’ Generation, 2NE1, and Big Bang are some of the most influential groups in K-pop’s 2nd generation. The 2nd generation K-pop groups debuted around 2004 to 2010 and are responsible for bringing the Hallyu wave into the global scene.
Girls’ Generation, also known as So Nyeo Shi Dae or SNSD, debuted as a nine-member unit in 2007. Arguably one of the biggest K-pop groups of all time, the girl group is known for their hit tracks Gee, Genie, The Boys, I Got A Boy, and Lion Heart, among others.
The girl group has been an eight-member unit since Jessica’s dismissal in 2014. Since then, the current active members include Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona, and Seohyun. Sadly, the full group hasn’t released a track since 2017.
Meanwhile, 2NE1 was introduced to the public in 2009 with the track Lollipop in collaboration with YG Entertainment labelmate BIGBANG. The girl group made their official debut in the same year with the breakout song Fire. Throughout their career, they have been praised for breaking typical stereotypes of K-pop with their musical style and fashion.
2NE1 was composed of four members, namely, CL, Bom, Dara, and Minzy. Unfortunately, the girl group disbanded in November 2016 with CL, Bom, and Dara releasing the song Goodbye for fans.
On the other hand, BIGBANG debuted as a five-member unit in 2006. BIGBANG has been dubbed as the “Kings of K-pop” for being one of the pioneer groups to spread the Hallyu wave in the global scene. The boy group recently made headlines after it was confirmed that they will be releasing new music after four years.
BIGBANG originally consisted of five members, namely, G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung, and Seungri. However, Seungri left the group and announced his retirement from the entertainment industry in March 2019.
