Anya Taylor-Joy says Twitter account hacked, clarifies fake tweet about 'Queen's Gambit' season 2

Sorry, The Queen's Gambit fans. The hit Netflix series won't be getting a season 2 although Anya Taylor-Joy seemingly said so on Twitter.

According to The Queen's Gambit lead star, her Twitter account was hacked.

On Jan. 30, Taylor-Joy's Twitter account published a tweet that says, "The Queen's Gambit Season 2." It was her account's first for the year following her last tweet in November 2020.

According to a Variety report, the recent tweet was visible to the public for around 10 minutes before it was taken down. Nonetheless, it sparked rumors that the actress was hinting at the show's renewal at Netflix.

Shortly after, the actress shared an Instagram Story, telling fans that it was not her who was posting on her Twitter account. "My Twitter has been hacked. Apologies for all inconveniences. It’s not me!” the actress briefly wrote.

Meanwhile, Variety confirmed "The Queen's Gambit Season 2" tweet with sources close to the actor and was told that it was nothing but fake.

While fans have been clamoring for the show's second chapter, Taylor-Joy revealed in a February 2021 interview with Deadline that the game has already ended.

"It’s so surreal and very wonderful that people want a second season, because we never thought about it, there was no discussion about it,” the actress told the portal. However, she added, "That said, never say ‘never’ in Hollywood.”

Meanwhile, showrunner Scott Frank said in September of the same year that confirmed that indeed, they have no plans for The Queen's Gambit season 2.

"I'm so sorry," Franks said told reporters present at that year's Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California. "I hate disappointing anyone…I feel like we told the story we wanted to tell, and I worry or let me put it differently, I'm terrified that if we tried to tell more, we would ruin what we've already told."

The Queen's Gambit follows chess prodigy Beth Harmon as she strives to become a world champion while struggling with drug and alcohol dependency. It premiered on Oct. 23, 2020 on Netflix and has earned awards from several award-giving bodies, including the Emmy Awards, Golden Globes, and Screen Actos Guild Awards, among others.
