Anthony Taberna's daughter now cancer-free after 2 years
Broadcaster Anthony Taberna’s daughter Zoey brought to social media the news that she is now cancer-free after battling leukemia for two years.
In a Facebook post uploaded on July 4, Zoey shared her journey as she battled leukemia since she was diagnosed in 2019.
“Since then, I have been undergoing chemotherapy. Everything was going on smoothly, and complications were very minimal. My hair had grown a lot and I was getting back to feeling normal, as I could do a lot more things than I could when I was weaker,” her caption read.
However, as per her Facebook post, the cancer cells that seemingly disappeared came back in “a way more dangerous and fatal form” in December last year. This resulted in her diagnosis transitioning from acute lymphoblastic leukemia into acute myeloid leukemia.
Zoey shared that because of this, she was asked to repeat the chemotherapy sessions in the country. “But of course, my parents wanted the better option, so that we could be sure that I will be fully healed,” she stated.
Their family then flew to Singapore for six months where Zoey would undergo intensive chemotherapy. She admitted being scared after having experienced it before and knowing she’d be dealing with the effects of the treatment, including hair loss, body pain, and mouth sores once again.
“I experienced things that, looking back now, even I thought I wouldn't be able to handle,” she said. “I'm not gonna lie, there were so many times that I thought that it was the end for me. That my life would end at 13 years old.”
Zoey shared that the support from her loved ones along with her faith served as her pillars of strength.
“When I try to remember some of the difficult episodes that happened to me, the only thought in my mind is ‘wow. nagawa ko pala 'yon,’" she said, further adding that seeing people become proud of her made her think that everything she went through was worth it.
“And the day I've been waiting for came! After 167 long days, we went back home to the Philippines. And now I am totally cancer free!” she said. “I would still have checkups and maintenance drug infusions from time to time, but that is nothing compared to what I've been through.”
Anthony Taberna first opened up about Zoey’s battle with leukemia in December 2020.
