Jennifer Hudson just became part of the elite group of EGOT winners, or those recognized at the four major awards in the American entertainment industry: Emmy (television), Grammy (music), Oscar (film), and Tony (theater).

Hudson cemented her EGOT status after Michael R. Jackson's musical A Strange Loop, of which she is a co-producer, was named best musical at the 75th Tony Awards on June 13, Manila time.

A Strange Loop is a meta tale following Usher, a black gay man who hates his day job as he writes his original musical about a black gay man who hates his day job as he writes his original musical.

Hudson won her first award from the Big Four in 2007, an Oscar for best supporting actress of the musical drama Dreamgirls.

The American Idol alumna next took home her Grammy in 2009, when her eponymous studio album Jennifer Hudson won best R&B album. Her second Grammy came in 2017 via The Color Purple, her Broadway debut which won best musical theater album.

In 2021, the animated fairytale Baba Yaga, which Hudson voiced and executive produced, won Daytime Emmy's Outstanding Interactive Media for a Daytime Program.

Hudson "manifested" her EGOT achievement last 2020. In an interview with People Magazine that year, Hudson who has dogs named Oscar and Grammy, said in jest she'll get two more and name them Emmy and Tony.

"It’ll give me good luck, and I’ll win," she said at the time. "[They’re] like my good luck charms.”

The select EGOT roster includes Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg, and John Legend.
