Enrique Gil stresses he and Liza Soberano are 'good' amid breakup rumors
Enrique Gil dismissed breakup speculations with Liza Soberano, emphasizing how supportive they are of each other in their new endeavors.
The Kapamilya actor set the record straight about their current status as a real-life couple in a July 13 interview with showbiz reporter Gretchen Fullido.
“We’re good, we’re good. You know, I’m busy with all my projects. She’s busy with all her projects naman. She’s focusing on international work which is super, super good for her,” the 31-year-old star said.
Although the two are no longer active as an on-screen love team, Enrique assured fans that they continue to support each other in their new paths in their careers.
“You know, kahit super busy kami, we still support each other no matter what,” he stressed. "So, yeah, I'm super happy for her, super happy for me, too.”
Breakup rumors between the two began early this year, when fans noticed that Liza hasn’t been posting about Enrique on her social media pages, even on his birthday last March 30.
Liza’s former talent manager Ogie Diaz claimed on May 30 that the actress has broken up with Enrique, saying that it was caused by her “choice” to pursue a Hollywood career.
"Hindi ko alam kung pareho nilang gusto iyon, pero ang nakarating sa atin ay choice ni Liza na tutukan muna ang kanyang career programming," he said. "Kaya wala na raw (sila)."
Ogie also cited anonymous sources as he said Enrique tried his best to make things work, but Liza no longer wants to push through with their romance.
Liza and Enrique were spotted together at their friend’s engagement party last month and were seen interacting with each other on Instagram even after the talent manager's claim.
In his latest vlog uploaded on Saturday, July 15, Ogie commented on Enrique’s statement, saying that his source might be a "liar."
“Kung sila pa rin, kung ang meaning sa inyo ng sinabi ni Enrique Gil ay sila pa rin, e ‘di sinungaling ‘yung source ko, ‘yun lang naman ‘yun,” Ogie said.
“At okay na sila pa rin, (para) sa'kin ha, kasi kilala ko naman na nagmamahalan sila,” he added.
The LizQuen loveteam debuted in the teleserye Forevermore in 2014. The two were in a relationship for the past eight years, though they only went public about their status in 2019.
Liza has been busy pursuing a career in Hollywood, while Enrique is set to have his comeback via a comedy film dubbed I’m Not a Big Bird. He has also established his own production company.
