Winter of K-pop group aespa underwent surgery due to collapsed lung: report
K-pop girl group aespa’s member Winter underwent surgery for pneumothorax or collapsed lung.
SM Entertainment, aespa’s agency, confirmed Winter’s condition and is currently recovering.
“As [pneumothorax] is a condition prone to recurrence, [the surgery] was carried out as a preventive measure,” SM Entertainment said in a statement, “in accordance with her doctor’s opinion, and the decision was made after plenty of discussion.”
As to how Winter’s recovery will affect her schedule, the agency said it will consider her recovery status, describing it as its “top priority moving forward.”
aespa is supposed to stage a comeback in May and hold a world tour by the end of June.
Debuting in 2020, aespa is composed of Giselle, Ningning, Karina, and Winter.
The group is known for the songs Black Mamba Next Level, Savage, Girls, and Drama.
According to Mayo Clinic, pneumothorax occurs when air leaks into the space between your lung and chest wall. This air pushes on the outside of your lung and makes it collapse, whether partially or fully.
Treatment usually involves inserting a needle or chest tube between the ribs to remove excess air. A small pneumothorax, meanwhile, may heal on its own.
