Why Ellen Adarna thinks confidence is about constantly working on oneself
When it comes to taking care of her son, keeping her marriage fun, and being unapologetically real, Ellen Adarma-Ramsey seems to have it all together. It shows especially through her confidence that is clearly on another level.
But confidence is one thing that the 35-year-old actress admits to being in need of at times. Like everyone else, Ellen has days when she's not in her best self. Being a mother to her four-year-old son Elias is, for one, a role she describes as "nakaka-haggard."
"Well, I'm human and we all have insecurities. I'm not gonna lie that I'm a hundred percent confident," she said.
Since it goes without saying that a confident person is made and not born, Ellen makes it a point to turn her insecurities into inspiration for becoming a better version of herself.
The actress-entrepreneur revealed this to PhilSTAR L!fe and other media outlets that attended Ultherapy's April 19 event where she was introduced as the cosmetic clinic's newest ambassador.
Ellen said, "For me, confidence is always working on myself. Because knowing your weakness is a strength."
"I know my weaknesses and my insecurities and I have a mentor who guides me. And I work on it," she added.
Ellen explained this further during her exclusive interview with L!fe where she said, "If ever I do have something that I think I’m not feeling good about myself, I really do work hard and that makes me feel confident. And then another thing comes na naman, a challenge comes along, then same, always try to get better."
"That is where the confidence grows and makes me stronger," she added.
Having a job that requires looking fresh and young at all times is just one of the reasons Ellen is taking care of her well-being. The priority is to stay healthy both physically and mentally for her firstborn Elias.
"I thought of taking care of myself because I have a son. And if I don’t take care of myself, how can I take care of Elias," she said during the discussion at the event.
"The priorities are different," she continued. "I have to take care of myself so I could be the best version of myself ‘cause he will copy me. I will set the standard."
In order to boost one's self-esteem or to handle triggers, Ellen suggests taking a pause and asking yourself, "Why? Why do I feel like this? Why do I feel like that?" Then proceed to "work on it."
The same goes, she said, when she looks in the mirror and notices that she's aging. She would then tell herself, "Stop there. Let's do something about it."
To overcome those insecurities, Ellen suggests, "You buy makeup, buy all the skin care, take whatever supplements. It is a priority."
"To look good and feel good, it just really starts with taking care of yourself—mind, body, and soul," she added. "It’s hard, it requires a lot of discipline, you have to work hard for it, but it is worth it."
