Ezra Miller breaks silence on harassment allegations from those seeking 'tabloid fame'
The Flash star Ezra Miller finally broke his silence a year after getting embroiled in harassment allegations involving a minor from Massachusetts.
In a statement posted on their personal Instagram account, the non-binary actor expressed their frustration over being unjustly targeted in a quest for tabloid fame.
The order, which had been imposed in June 2022 by a parent in Greenfield, Massachusetts, accused Miller of behaving inappropriately in front of her non-binary 12-year-old child.
Allegations included Miller paying undue attention to the minor and engaging in inappropriate physical contact, such as forceful hugging and touching of their hips. Additionally, a neighbor claimed that the actor had visited the family’s home wearing a bulletproof vest and brandishing a gun, resulting in a loud outburst directed at the adults present.
The protective order was lifted by a judge at the Greenfield District Court on July 30.
In the Instagram post, Ezra called the protective order an “egregious misuse of the protective order system.”
“Protective orders are meant to provide safety for individuals, families, and children who are in danger. They are not meant to be used as weapons by those seeking attention or fleeting tabloid fame or some sort of personal vengeance when there are people in true and dire need of these services," they said.
"I have been unjustly and directly targeted by an individual who the facts have shown has a history of such manipulative and destructive actions," they added.
The actor also called out media outlets "who have recklessly spread false claimes and failed to accurately report the truth and context of this story" to be more discerning of the data they've been reporting.
In a statement issued to Rolling Stone, Miller’s attorney, Marissa Elkins, supported their client’s position. Elkins asserted that Miller “was never alone with the child and never interacted with the child outside of two brief encounters which occurred in the presence of several other adults.”
Addressing other allegations and videos circulating online depicting erratic behavior, “Ezra does not deny that amid their struggle that they have made mistakes and behaved at times in ways they wish they could take back. That, however, does not make every allegation, rumor, or false accusation true," she said.
The lifting of the harassment order provides some relief for Miller, who has been subjected to intense scrutiny and media attention since the allegations were made.
He ended his statement by thanking fans for supporting them. That they will be continuing to work on their own well-being and work on reversing the damage the allegations have caused them and those close to them.
