The English singer-songwriter Sam Smith has finally conquered their fear of body imperfection in a new I'm Not Here to Make Friends music video. 

Despite receiving outrage and criticism, the Unholy singer said that making the music video helped them start accepting thier physical appearance and break the stereotypes of how a pop star should look like. 

"Within my industry there is definitely that question of, 'What should a pop star look like?'" they told The Sunday Times. 

Sam also recently opened up on feeling better about their skin amidst struggling with personal weight. The pop star admitted that it took a long journey to finally come out and be confident enough to pose topless for their recent album cover, Gloria.

“It paid off because I now have the opposite of body dysmorphia. I look fabulous. I’m finally getting a tan. I’m burnt in places I’ve never been burnt," Sam said.

Moreover, the singer, who uses 'they/them' pronouns, confirmed that their body dysmorphia helped them realize a non-binary identity. 

“I always had body dysmorphia. As I started to address that, I started to address my gender and realized that I was holding myself to these ideals of how a man should look," Sam said who confirmed that they underwent several therapies to conquer the disorder.

The I'm Not the Only One singer recently received backlash shortly after releasing their controversial new music video where the lead was seen posing and dancing shirtless with only heart tapes covering their nipples which were coined by netizens "unhealthily liberating."

Sam is known for their top hits such as Too Good At Goodbyes, Stay With Me, and Fire on Fire.

They last visited the Philippines in 2018 for their The Thrill of It All Tour.
