Janella Salvador reveals she's had crushes on girls, sapphic 'Hey You' MV was 'personal'
Janella Salvador has had crushes on girls before, she revealed in an interview over a week after the release of her music video for Hey You.
The actress talked about her latest projects, which include her music, with radio station Yes FM.
On June 22, Janella dropped the music video for her latest single starring her and Darna co-star Jane de Leon as schoolmates who fall in love with each other.
The Under Parallel Skies star was asked if she ever had a moment when she had a crush on a girl.
Janella responded by tucking her hair behind her ears and saying, "Of course!"
"I mean 'di mabubuhay 'yung music video [if I hadn't]," she continued. "Since it was my concept, I wanted it to be as personal as possible."
She added that since she came from an all-girls school like her character, she put that in the music video.
In another interview with Easy Rock's Plugged In, she talked about how she came up with the Hey You video.
"The song isn't actually really Girls Love (GL)," Janella said. "It turned gay because of me!"
"Jane and I have been wanting a GL for the longest time so after I recorded this song, there was this day when I just thought, 'What if we turn this into the GL that we've been waiting for? I'm so tired of waiting, I'll just make it happen this time.'"
Janella recently performed at the Quezon City Pride March, which was cut short due to heavy rains. When she took the stage, the actress talked about wanting to star with Jane again.
The two actresses starred in the 2022 TV series Mars Ravelo's Darna with Jane as the titular hero and Janella as her archenemy Valentina. Fans of the show have been shipping the two characters together as they noted the pair's chemistry.
