Joe Alwyn finally comments on separation with Taylor Swift
Joe Alwyn has broken his silence about his breakup with Taylor Swift.
Nearly a year from their split, the Kinds of Kindness actor offered a candid look at his relationship with his ex in a recent interview with The Sunday Times Style Magazine. He said that their relationship was "long, loving" and "fully committed."
While Alwyn didn't directly address the question of whether he'd heard Taylor's The Tortured Poets Department—which fans believe was inspired by the former couple's split—he, however, said, “I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years. That is a hard thing to navigate. What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in.”
Reflecting on his breakup more, he said, "What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in.”
“So you have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, press, where it is then dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition," he continued. "And the truth is, to that last point, there is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have made my peace with that.”
Addressing long-standing fan speculation, Alwyn, in a UK publication interview, emphasized their decision to keep things private was joint. He also expressed a desire to maintain privacy regarding specific details.
“It was never something to commodify, and I see no reason to change that now,” Alwyn said, adding, “Look, this is also a little over a year ago now, and I feel fortunate to be in a really great place in my life — professionally and personally. I feel really good.”
According to him, he and Taylor "mutually" decided to "keep the more private details of our relationship private."
"It was never something to commodify and I see no reason to change that now," he said.
Joe and Taylor broke up in April 2023 after six years of dating. Sources said that it was caused by "differences in their personalities” that became “harder to ignore."
