‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ star Shannen Doherty dies at 53
Shannen Doherty, who became famous for her roles in Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed, has passed away. She was 53.
Her publicist Leslie Sloane confirmed her death to PEOPLE Magazine on Sunday, July 14.
"On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease," she said.
“The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace,” she added.
Less than a year before her death, the actress opened up about her battle with cancer and said it had spread to her brain and then her bones.
According to E! News, Doherty struggled with breast cancer in 2015 and went into remission two years later. She revealed it unfortunately came back in early 2020.
Doherty entered the entertainment scene in 1982 via shows such as Father Murphy, Voyagers!, and Little House on the Prairie. She had a co-starring role in Girls Just Wanna Have Fun in 1985.
Her role in Heathers (1988) marked her first big role on the screen. It was followed by other hit projects such as Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed, among many others.
