LOOK: Filipino designers who showcased their works at New York Fashion Week 2024

Filipino designers took the stage to showcase the intricacy and beauty of their ensembles at this year’s New York Fashion Week. 

For fashion enthusiasts, the prestigious week-long event is one of the most awaited parts of the year, having been able to stay up to date on what’s latest in the industry for the Spring/Summer 2025 season. 

Celebrities from across the world, including BLACKPINK’s Jisoo, Suki Waterhouse, Rihanna, and more attended various shows from respective luxury brands. 

Pinoy celebrities also walked the stage to showcase the finest works of our very own designers. Check them out below:  

Chris Nick  

Chris Nick, who brands himself with his sleek and sophisticated collections, was among the Filipino designers who participated in the event. 

One of his models during the runway are his global ambassadors Kyline Alcantara, who donned a black velvet dress with a turtle neck and long sleeves; and Miss Universe PH 2023 Michelle Dee who wore a body-hugging black silk dress with her iconic hairstyle seen during her stint at the Miss Universe competition.

Brian Poe Llamanzares 

The classic BONIFACIO barong on the runaway at FILIPINXT fashion show in New York City. A luxurious dark brown piña silk forms the canvas for intricate hand-embroidered botanical designs.

The back of their exclusive runway piece for NWFW. The Safari jacket utilizes the finest piña fabrics from Aklan and the brand’s signature callado details. This playful design is reminiscent of the sun on the Philippine flag.

Every piece created by the brand is a celebration of the rich traditions of Lumban, Laguna, also known as the “Embroidery Capital of the Philippines.” Meticulously embroidered barongs from the brand honor the storied past and promising future of the region, bringing its intricate needlepoint work to the forefront of contemporary fashion.

Known for his fine needlepoint work by Lumban’s artisans, Brian Poe Llamanzares debuted his first capsule collection of contemporary barongs at the Filipinxt Fashion Show in New York.  

Some of the barongs that were featured are the Classic Luna and Bonifacio barong tagalogs from its inaugural collection, along with two runway pieces crafted exclusively for New York Fashion Week.  

As per the brand, the runway pieces shown reimagined the classic Safari jacket, utilizing the finest piña fabrics from Aklan and the brand’s signature callado details. 

Chynna Mamawal  

Chynna Mamawal showcased her vibrant and playful collection, featuring a soft ruffle and floral silhouettes in both bold and light colors. 

Taking the center stage of her show is Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel who donned a ball gown in soft color combinations of red and white, completing the piece with an exaggerated floral tucked on the side. 

Bessie Besana 

Bessie Besana, who also created Pia Wurtzbach’s dreamy wedding gown, graced this year’s event and showcased some of his contemporary bridal pieces—from cutesy short dresses to ethereal-looking long gowns. 

During the event, Filipino American Marizza Delgado, who was recently crowned Miss New York USA 2024, donned one of his pieces from his “Whispers of the Cosmo” FW24 collection. 

Adrienne Charuel 

Adrienne Charuel of Maison Métisse debuted her latest collection, Orenda, for the Spring/Summer 2025 season. 

The pieces shown are mostly embroidered, hand-painted, and handwoven from local artisans, like those from Aklan. 

The coordinates and mesh-type pieces, some with edgy cuts were said to be inspired by the “Iroquoian concept of a mystical force residing in all people and things.”

Niño Franco showcased contemporary styles of skirts, barong dresses, and tops made with silk cocoon, which suits whatever gender.  

The pieces, inspired by the T’bolis’ iconic kegal nesif, were handwoven and embellished with embroidered floral patterns by artisans of Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, and were put mostly in cool tones of blue and green. 

Also present during NYFW are Pia Wurtzbach, who donned pieces by Carolina Herrera, Dolce Gabbana, and Tommy Hilfiger; and Kobe Paras who walked the runway for Milarri.
