Celebrities show off their 'dirty' finger during the May 9 elections

A host of celebrities have come out to vote during the 2022 Philippine national elections.

For months leading to May 9, stars and social media influencers have been using their influence and social media platforms to voice out their political beliefs and encourage their followers to exercise their rights to vote.

Like us, they're fulfilling their civic duties—and they have proof. From 'dirty' finger selfies to Instagram Stories, take a look below to see which famous faces have already cast their ballots.

Janella Salvador

Janella Salvador wore pink shoes on Election Day to show her support for her presidential bet Leni Robredo.

"Here’s to hoping for a better Philippines," she wrote on Instagram.

Catriona Gray and Nicole Cordoves

Catriona Gray and Nicole Cordoves went to the same precinct to vote for their bets.

In a snap shared by Catriona, the beauty queens did the finger heart gesture as they showed their inked fingers.

"Para sa bayan," our Miss Universe 2018 wrote in her Instagram stories.

Nadine Lustre

Nadine Lustre showed up in barely-there makeup as she voted in the May polls.

She posted a selfie on her Instagram stories after casting her ballot.

In a separate clip, she was spotted with her boyfriend Christopher Bariou.

Kylie Verzosa

Kylie Verzosa shared a series of photos of herself outside her polling precinct after voting.

"First time voter," she wrote in the caption.

"Loud and proud," the Kakampink added alongside a pink heart emoji.

Gary Valenciano

Gary Valenciano, a self-confessed first-time voter at 57 years old, has finally exercised his right to suffrage.

"It was my FIRST TIME TO VOTE and I must say it felt quite patriotic," Valenciano wrote on Instagram, followed by three Philippine flag emojis. He shared several photos and videos of his debut vote. 

"How I wish people would truly truly grasp the depth of importance a vote means," he added, followed by more emojis of the Philippine flag, praying hands, and pink and green hearts. The colors are associated with Vice President Leni Robredo and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan.

He has openly supported the Robredo-Pangilinan tandem, and was part of their campaign rallies.

Karla Estrada

Karla Estrada, the mother of Daniel Padilla, shared that she already voted.

"Para sa mga Kababayan nating pinangakuan pero kinalimutan," Estrade wrote. "Hindi Na Muli," followed by the hashtag #botokoparasayo.

Andrea Brillantes

Andrea Brillantes voted in the national elections for the first time.

"Para sa bayan," she captioned her Instagram post showing her inked finger.

She also included the hashtags #halalan2022 and #firsttimevoter.

The actress, who has expressed her support for presidential aspirant Leni Robredo, matched her neutral-colored outfit with a pink and white necklace.

Anne Curtis

Anne Curtis had white roses serving as the perfect backdrop for a snap of her inked finger.

"Done. Voted with a heart full of hope para sa ating bayan," she wrote on Instagram, adding an emoji of the Philippine flag.

"With just a few hours to go, please let us continue to pray for a peaceful Election Day," the actress continued.

Angel Locsin

Angel Locsin paired her black shirt with a black bucket hat as she cast her vote in the polls.

"Haaay Pilipinas. Kahit parang ang hirap minsan, pipiliin at pipiliin pa rin kita," she wrote in the caption of her post.

"Maraming salamat po sa mga tapat na mga guro na nagbabantay. Mga hindi pa daw kumakain o umiinom makapagbantay lang," the actress added.

Joshua Garcia

Joshua Garcia came up with a witty caption as he shared a selfie with his inked finger.

"Wala po sa balota si Wisely, pero iboto po natin!" he wrote on Instagram alongside a laughing emoji and the hashtag #Philippines.

Sharon Cuneta and Kiko Pangilinan

Sharon Cuneta cast her vote alongside her husband Kiko Pangilinan, who is seeking a vice presidential seat in the elections.

In a separate post, she shared that they "happily stayed in line with other voters" and "met so many nice people who had their pics taken with us."

Aside from their supporters, she also thanked the "volunteers" as well as "our brave and patient teachers.

"May Almighty God bless the Philippines!" she wrote in the caption.

Solenn Heussaff

Solenn Heussaff took to her Instagram stories to share that she voted in the 2022 elections.

Flashing her inked finger, she added an IG sticker that says "BUMOTO" with the colors of the Philippine flag in the background.

Barbie Imperial

Looking fresh as ever, Barbie Imperial cast her vote wearing white.

"First time voter!" she wrote on Instagram, adding a Philippine flag emoji and the hashtag #Halalan2022.

Hidilyn Diaz: 'Binoto ko ay may gold standard sa good governance'

Hidilyn Diaz said she voted for someone with a "gold standard sa good governance" in the May 9 polls.

Sharing some snaps on Instagram, the country's first Olympic gold medalist also encouraged her followers to exercise their right to vote.

"Pumila para bumoto!" she wrote in her post.

"Sobrang saya kasi na-exercise ko ang rights ko bilang isang Pilipino," the athlete added.

Maja Salvador posts selfie after voting

Maja Salvador shared a selfie on Instagram after casting her ballot.

“Laban Pilipinas!” she wrote in the caption.

The actress also tagged #Halalan2022 in her post.

Liza Soberano votes in a pink top

Liza Soberano headed out to vote in pink.

The first time voter also expressed her support for Leni Robredo.

Michael V. reminds followers to vote

Comedian Michael V shared a picture of himself after voting. He also reminded his followers to vote and respect each others' decision.

"Wag kalimutang bumoto at irespeto ang desisyon ng kapwa Pilipino," he said.

"Best of luck to our next president… whoever she may be."

Sunshine Cruz votes with daughter Angelina

Sunshine Cruz has already voted together with her mother and her daughter with Cesar Montano, Angelina.

"Voted! Praying for a clean and honest election. 🙏🏻 God bless Philippines!" the actress wrote.

Sunshine is the girlfriend of Macky Mathay, who is running for councilor in San Juan City.

'Galit sakin yung naglagay ng ink': Macoy Dubs votes in the national elections

Social media personality Macoy Averilla a.k.a. Macoy Dubs shared his selfie on Instagram.

"Hindi ko alam kung may galit sakin yung naglagay ng ink. Charot! Pero Pilipinas, ikaw naman," he wrote showing his inked finger.

Saab Magalona votes with husband Jim Bacarro

Saab Magalona and husband Jim Bacarro shared a selfies on Election Day.

In their first picture, the couple smiled for a selfie wearing pink face masks while in line for their turn.

Saab captioned the photo: "Almost there."

Saab added in another tweet that she's wearing black nail polish as her whole nail looked like it was covered in ink.

"P.S. naka black nail polish talaga ako hahaha."

Bea Alonzo wears pink on election day

Bea Alonzo is "inked."

The GMA star looks fresh in pink as she went out on May 9 to vote.

"Praying for a peaceful and orderly election today 🙏🏻 Vote wisely!!" she captioned her post.

Kim Chiu posts selfie showing her nail art and inked finger

Vote but make it fashion.

Kapamilya star Kim Chiu already "did my part as a Filipino citizen."

Kim shared selfies with her finger that's marked with indelible ink and decorated with pink heart nail art.

"Voting is the most precious right of every Filipino. Exercise it wisely. Kung ano man po ang desisyon nyo ngayon. Isipin po natin pang 6 years po ito ng buhay ng bawat Pilipino," she wrote.

Richard Juan votes in Parañaque

Former Pinoy Big Brother housemate Richard Juan has already voted.

He tweeted a selfie at the polling station saying, "woke up at 5am to be one of the early voters here at Parañaque... hence my jwu look."

Richard also added the hashtag #ipana7ona10toparasalahat.

Jodi Sta. Maria felt emotional while casting her vote

Jodi Sta. Maria shared a selfie with her finger marked with indelible ink.

"Felt so emotional kanina while filling out my ballot. Nag-ingat ng husto sa pagmarka dahil baka hindi mabasa ng machine," said Jodi.

The Broken Marriage Vow star said she almost teared during the process.

"Nung nabasa na ng machine, lumabas ang resibo, napasobra ang lagay ng ink sa daliri ko halos napaiyak ako (dahil mahapdi rin siguro dahil sa kakakutkot ko ng index finger ko bago bumoto 😁 Election anxiety perhaps?) Proud ako kasi alam ko tumindig ako," she added.

Actor Khalil Ramos has already casted his vote.

The actor shared a picture of a Philippine flag and a photo of himself showing his marked finger with the caption, "Vote wisely, everyone."

Kathryn Bernardo votes with Mommy Min and sister Kaye

Kathryn Bernardo greets her followers "good morning" showing her marked finger.

Kathryn, joined by her mother Min and sister Kaye, has already voted.

Kath and on-and-offscreen partner Daniel Padilla previously endoresed vice president Leni Robredo.

In a video, Kath noted the qualities she looks for in a good leader.

“Siguro mas madaling magplano kung may maaasahan kang subok na — masasandalang lider na handang iangat tayo sa lahat ng krisis,” Bernardo stated. “Kaya ako, ano plano ko? Ang plano ko sa May 9 gawing Pangulo si Leni Robredo. Sana kayo rin,” she said.

Jasmine Curtis-Smith votes

TV5 actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith is "done and dusted."

Posting a selfie, Jasmine writes that she is voting for the children.

"Take care today, spread the love, be involved in anyway you can in our communities. Whether loud and big or small and quietly. Stop the hate. End the bullying. Educate, discuss, debate. Love," she said.

Francine Diaz votes for the first time

First-time voter Francine Diaz shared a selfie doing a finger heart, writing that the children and youth are the future.

"Kung ano man ang maging desisyon at gawin natin ngayon ay ang hinaharap ng kinabukasan," she wrote on Instagram.

"Tayong kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan, pumili tayo ng leader na may malasakit sa lahat ng pilipino, yung may pagmamahal sa bawat tao, hindi umaatras sa anumang laban, hindi sa una lang magaling, may pagmamahal sa bayan. Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla votes for husband, Robin

Host-actress Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla shared on Instagram that she has already voted.

"Woke up at 5:15am showered at 5:20… arrived at 5:58. Lined up. Finished voting at 7am!!!! I AM SO PROUD OF YOU @robinhoodpadilla i was so emotional while shading #49 😭 mahal na mahal kita ROBIN PADILLA!!!!" she wrote adding three green hearts, while reminding her followers to double check their receipts.

Host Karla Estrada replied a "Woooohooooo!!!!" to her post, while politician Shalani Soledad left three green hearts.

Rosas singer Nica del Rosario, who attended the May 8 Miting de Avance, shared her marked finger on her Instagram Stories.

Jolina Magdangal, Mark Escueta pen letter to children after casting votes

Actress Jolina Magdangal and husband Rivermaya frontman Mark Escueta penned a letter to their children after casting their votes on May 9.

"Dear Pele and Vika, May 9, 2022, ito ang aming resibo na kami ni Papa ay tumindig, pinaglaban at pinanindigan ang inyong magandang kinabukasan," Magdangal wrote in a Facebook post, accompanied by a photo of her and Escueta crossing their marked index fingers to form a heart.

"Ang lagi naming dasal, kayo ay maging mabuting tao, matapang na ipaglaban ang inyong karapatan, at laging may empathy at compassion sa kapwa," she added, signing the letter "Nagmamahal, Mama and Papa."

The couple has openly expressed their support for Vice President Leni Robredo and has attended the presidential candidate's campaign rallies.

Magdangal has been married to Escueta since 2011.

Maris Racal votes at 6 in the morning

Maris Racal has joined the early bird club.

"As a first time voter, grabe yung kaba ko," she wrote on Instagram. "Shade properly and double check your receipts! Vote wisely," she reminded.
