Cherie Gil’s children said the seasoned actress "fought bravely against her illness with grace and strength" as they thanked everyone who has expressed their love and concern for their mom and their family “during this difficult time."

In a joint statement on Sunday, Aug. 7, her sons Raphael and Jay as well as her daughter Bianca announced that Cherie “passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 5th at 4:48am EST after a brave battle with cancer.”

It was in October 2021 when their mother found out she had a “rare form of endometrial cancer” not too long after she decided to leave the Philippines for New York. She moved to The Big Apple in February 2022 and was admitted to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center for treatment, which was also evident in Cherie’s last few posts on Facebook.

“It was her request that her diagnosis be kept private, and as a family, we supported her in this decision,” they said.

With grace and strength, her children shared that the showbiz veteran “fought bravely” throughout her journey. “Despite her struggles, she always managed to exude courage and never lost her trademark sass, wit, and infectious humor, or her larger-than-life personality,” they explained, adding that she spent her last moments on Earth with her nearest and dearest.

Cherie's children continued to express their utmost gratitude for all the love and support people have given not only to Cherie, but also to their entire family. “While we are deeply saddened by our loss and still mourning her passing, we are incredibly moved by the outpouring of love and support for her and our family; evidence of just how many lives Cherie has touched,” they said.

“In the end, there are no words—only love. Cherie lived with all her heart,” they concluded.

The death of the iconic villain was first announced by her talent manager Annabelle Rama on Aug. 5, which was later confirmed by her nephew Sid Lucero. She was 59 years old.

Rest in power, Cherie.
