Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's son diagnosed with rare skin disorder
Kim Kardashian opened up about the rare skin condition of her son in a recent podcast.
The reality show star took part in a podcast episode of She MD earlier this week, where she talked about her family’s struggles with autoimmune skin diseases.
She revealed that one of her sons with rapper Kanye West was diagnosed with vitiligo. According to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMSD), this condition causes patches of the skin to lose pigment or color.
Kim and Kanye share two sons: 8-year-old Saint and 5-year-old Psalm. She did not specify which of them is suffering from the skin disorder.
She also revealed that she has long struggled with psoriasis, another skin disease that causes skin cells to "multiply too quickly." According to her, it may have contributed to her son's diagnosis.
“[Psoriasis] came from my mom, went to me, then I passed it on in a different form to my son, who has vitiligo,” she said.
Kim added that she only started showing psoriasis symptoms at 30 years old.
“We were at my mom’s house and I was wearing a short skirt, and she looked at my legs and goes, ‘Oh my god, you have psoriasis,’” she said, adding that she did not believe her mom, Kris Jenner, at first, and had to confirm the diagnosis with a dermatologist who lived in her apartment building.
She revealed that the symptoms went away for a few years after taking a cortisone shot.
“It was dormant for a few years and then it came back maybe five years later, and I’ve never gotten rid of it since,” she said.
