Ice Seguerra to release ‘documusic’ on mental health, fulfills director dreams
What Ice Seguerra has manifested for so long will finally come true through his upcoming music documentary Dito Ka Lang, which will focus on his mental health journey.
On Tuesday, June 20, the singer and former child star announced in an Instagram post that he will be releasing the "documusic," which will be breathing life into his longtime dream of becoming a film director.
“You see, it's always been my dream to become a film director. Matagal ko nang pangarap 'to but life got in the way,” said Seguerra.
He believed that life has many surprises in store and said, “If you manifest your aspirations and continue to work on it, it will happen.”
Seguerra said that Dito Ka Lang will be released via Zoom on June 26, 5 p.m. A panel discussion will also be taking place afterwards.
The singer, who is set to share his mental health struggles through a creative medium, emphasized how “really important” the documentary is to him.
Seguerra was diagnosed with depression and anxiety 17 years ago and first opened up about his mental health problems in October 2019. Almost two years later, in January 2021, the singer-songwriter shared another Instagram post, describing how the condition "kills" one's passion and soul.
"For the longest time, I have just been cruising steadily. Pero 'yun lang yun. Steady pero walang passion. Dumating sa point na kahit pagkanta, wala na akong gana. That's a big thing 'coz singing is not just a job; it's how I express myself, how I connect with people, how I heal myself. Singing is my freedom," he wrote in his post.
"Iyan ang depression. It just doesn't make us sad or lonely. Pinapatay niya kung sino ka and the very thing that make us want to live," he continued. "Depression kills your passion. It kills your soul."
"So yeah, I was there. But not anymore. For now," he added.
Seguerra has also spoken of embracing the ups and downs of battling the illness despite the tiring journey. “Living with depression for almost 17 years now, I’ve come to accept that this will be my life from here on. With acceptance comes embracing the fact there will be days, weeks, or months that I won’t be okay, without really understanding why,” he said in another Instagram post
In an interview with OneNews last year, Seguerra gave credit to music for being an outlet for his thoughts and feelings as he dealt with mental health issues.
Apart from this, the singer has been open about his support for the LGBTQ+ community and his struggles after coming out as lesbian in 2007 and transgender in 2014.
Seguerra initially emerged as a famous child star in the late ‘80s to ‘90s after emerging as the runner-up of Eat Bulaga's “Little Miss Philippines” contest in 1987. His involvement in showbiz continued until he eventually pursued and focused on his music career in 2001, the same year his song Pagdating ng Panahon became a major hit.
