Happy Pride!
Every year, thousands of LGBTQ+ members and allies in the country come together to march their way for safe spaces and celebrate the queer community in various ways.
Two Pride events were held on Saturday, June 24, including the Metro Manila Pride with the theme Tayo ang Kulayaan! Samot-saring Lakas, Sama-sama sa Landas! in Makati as well as the Pride Festival with the theme Love, Laban: A Celebration of the Fight for Love in All Forms and Ways in Quezon City.
Local celebrities and personalities also joined in the fight for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. Here are some of them.
Michelle Dee
Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee graced the Pride Festival at the Quezon Memorial Circle. The actress and model, who recently came out as bisexual, said on stage: “Sa pagpunta ko sa El Salvador, I won’t just be raising the Philippine flag. I will also be raising the LGBTQIA+ flag!” she vowed, referring to the upcoming Miss Universe pageant this year.
Gabbi Garcia
Gabbi Garcia had a memorable Pride experience as she got to share it with her dad. In her Instagram post, the actress shared that her dad offered to give her a ride and asked if he could join her in the march. "Anddd here we are!!! I love you Dad!! Thank you for stepping up and making a difference!!" she wrote.
Megan Young
Megan Young expressed her support for the queer community as she attended the Pride Festival. "I stand up for you all here tonight as an ally of the LGBTQ+ community. I am here because I believe in love!" the Miss World 2013 titleholder said.
Sexbomb Girls
Who would ever forget one of the early favorite girl groups of the queer community in the Philippines? Sexbomb Girls, including Weng, Monic, and Mhyca, provided fun and entertainment to the attendees with their performance of their hit songs Bakit Papa? and Sumaway Sumunod, among many others.
Andrea Brillantes
Andrea Brillantes continued to show her love and support for the queers as she delivered a drag performance during the 2023 Pride Night. The actress, who has long been vocal as an ally, shared some photos of her on Instagram holding a rainbow flag. "Love will continue to win! Happy Pride! #PrideMarch2023," she captioned her post.
