‘Money grab?’: Jennifer Lopez bashed for launching alcohol brand even though she’s sober

Published Apr 10, 2023 1:53 pm

Jennifer Lopez has been a hot topic on social media since she launched her alcohol brand Delola despite being a non-drinker.

The singer promoted her liquor drink in a recent Instagram post, saying that “grinding non-stop for decades” has made her realize the “importance of enjoying life.”

“I just wanted to create something better—something better-tasting, better ingredients, something I would want to drink with my friends and family, and that is Delola,” she said in the video.

Her promotional clip was met with backlash, with netizens pointing out that she has long been sober and that her husband, actor Ben Affleck’s alcohol addiction made him end up in rehab several times in the past.

“Wow. I’m so disappointed and confused by the narrative that she puts out about how she doesn’t drink alcohol and all the benefits from not drinking. And her partner is sober?” a netizen said, noting that she’s one of J.Lo’s fans. “But again, this is really, really disappointing and her messaging is very confusing.”

“Super disappointed and confused about you promoting something that you have openly shared you do not partake in because of the health effects of alcohol. Also, you are married to a man that struggles with alcohol addiction,” another one said.

“But you literally don’t drink? This is such a money grab,” an IG user commented.

In an interview with Food and Wine published on April 4, J.Lo shared she hasn’t been a “big drinker” her whole life. “For a long time, I didn’t drink at all. But I’m very particular, and I wanted Delola to be something that’s easy to pour over ice and drink.”

According to an April 6 report by CBS News, an insider explained the singer’s drinking habits and said that “she’s been pictured drinking at events over the course of her career, but has chosen to limit her drinking to improve both her health and appearance.”
