Madonna apologizes to fan in wheelchair after she calls them out for remaining seated

Pop star Madonna had an awkward moment during a show after she called out a fan who was sitting down only later to find out that they were a wheelchair user.

In a video shared by user @avid_original on X (formerly Twitter), the Vogue singer was performing at the Kia Forum in California on March 7. The clip on X has reached over 1.7 million views with others sharing it on TikTok as well.

"What are you doing sitting down over there?" she asked, pointing to a fan in the audience. "What are you doing sitting down?"

Madonna then took her mic off its stand and walked to the edge of the stage to get a closer look at the fan.

"Oh, okay. Politically incorrect, sorry about that. I'm glad you're here," the singer told the fan after the awkward moment.

Online, social media users have criticized Madonna for singling out the fan and raised how concertgoers can do what they want with their seats during a show.

"But is it an offense to [sit] down during a [show] though like what if I feel tired?" one user wrote on X

"If I buy a ticket and want to sit down, I'm gonna sit down," one user commented on TikTok.

"I paid for the seat, I'll do what I want to [it,]" another said.

Other users came to her aid, saying that at least she apologized to the fan, while others said she didn't say sorry enough.

"She didn't even apologize for putting them in the spot," one person wrote.

Madonna is currently in the middle of her Celebration tour, which will have stops in the US, Canada, England, Netherlands, Germany, and Mexico.

In January, the "Queen of Pop" was sued by fans for starting her concert in New York City to which her team and organizer Live Nation said they would defend the case "vigorously."

Meanwhile, in February, Madonna fell off her chair while performing in Seattle but picked herself up immediately.
