X updates privacy settings for 'Likes' after allowing adult content
X, formerly known as Twitter, is making users' "Likes" private.
"This week we’re making Likes private for everyone to better protect your privacy," X's engineering team announced on the platform on June 12, Manila time.
They noted that users may still be able to see posts they have liked, but they can no longer see who liked someone else's post.
Like count and other metrics for users' own posts will still show up under notifications, and a post's author can see who liked their posts.
X Chairman Elon Musk quoted the announcement, calling it an "important change."
The change comes days after X officially allowed pornography on the platform, stating that "sexual expression, visual or written, can be a legitimate form of artistic expression."
According to the new X guidelines, users may share adult content "as long as it is consensually produced and distributed adult nudity or sexual behavior."
However, adult content will be prohibited for users identified as children or adult users who choose not to view it.
Additionally, it must be labeled and not prominently displayed, such as in profile pictures or account banners.
