Godzilla and Titans new live-action series in the works at Apple TV Plus
A new live-action series set in Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise is officially in the works at Apple TV Plus.
The streaming platform announced on Friday that the still untitled Monsterverse series is now underway from Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise, Outcast), who will serve as showrunner with comic book author Matt Fraction, writer of Marvel’s Hawkeye.
Co-creators Black and Fraction will be working with Safehouse Pictures’ Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell and Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita from Toho, the owner of the Godzilla character and other creatures in the franchise.
“Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the series explores one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch,” the synopsis reads.
Apple TV Plus has yet to announce additional details about the project, including the cast, title and the series’ release date.
Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise chronicles humanity’s attempt to survive in a world filled with mythical monsters. The movie franchise started in 2014 with Godzilla, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe and Bryan Cranston, then continued in 2017’s Kong: Skull Island (Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson), 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, with both films starring Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, and Millie Bobby Brown.
Since then, the Monsterverse films have accumulated close to two billion dollars globally at the box office and is ever expanding with a new anime series, Skull Island.
The upcoming anime series from Netflix will feature a new chapter in the Monsterverse franchise and will follow a group of survivors who find themselves stranded in the most dangerous place on Earth—a mysterious island home to prehistoric monsters, including the Eighth Wonder of the World, Kong.
Speaking of shows with kaijus, a new anime series featuring the King of Monsters is now streaming on Netflix. The 13-episode series showcases a brand new cast and separate storyline that is not connected to previous Godzilla anime films including Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle and Godzilla: The Planet Eater.
